I’m not sure whether this has already been suggested, but I thought it might be a useful feature for people who regularly use Codex or Work mode for longer tasks. This is not a complaint or rant about usage limits. No worries there.
It could be helpful to have an optional, user-configurable usage warning threshold, for example when 20%, 10% or 5% of the available usage remains.
If that threshold is reached while Codex or Work is actively working on a task, the warning could perhaps also be made visible to the active agent. This would allow Codex and the user to decide together whether it would be better to continue, finish the current step, or pause at a safe checkpoint before the usage limit is reached.
The part I think would be particularly useful is that it would not only be a notification to the user. Codex itself would also know that the remaining usage is getting low and could take that into account when deciding where it would be safest to stop.
For longer coding, troubleshooting, file-editing, migration, or multi-stage tasks, this could help avoid situations where the usage limit is reached unexpectedly in the middle of an important operation.
