Feature Request: Auto-Resume after Usage Limit

Please add an Auto-Resume after Usage Limit feature to Codex CLI and the Codex App.

When Codex reaches a usage/rate limit, it should be able to:

  1. Automatically detect that the task was stopped because of the usage limit.
  2. Wait until the usage limit resets.
  3. Automatically resume the interrupted task from where it stopped.
  4. Optionally provide a GUI checkbox such as “Automatically resume when usage limit resets.”
  5. Ideally support configurable behavior for different limit types.

This feature is important for long-running and autonomous coding tasks.

Claude Code already provides an experience for automatically continuing after usage limits, and this is currently a significant reason for choosing Claude Code over Codex.

If Codex implements reliable automatic resume after usage limits, I would definitely come back to using Codex as my primary coding agent.

Please prioritize this feature. It would make Codex much more practical for long-running autonomous development workflows.

Ive had same issue thus i (claude) created a dedicated python app for auto resuming a converastion after limit resets. Feel free to check it out. (Do keep in mind its dedicated for chat gpt a pp for windows 11)

You should be able to fork it yourself and do it. Raise a PR to codex.
That’s what I plan on doing. Maybe if enough people open PRs with that feature, one will get merged
