I’d like to request the ability to create subfolders within ChatGPT Projects to organize conversations, including conversations created through ChatGPT Work handoffs.
I use ChatGPT Projects for ongoing, complex development work involving multiple parallel workflows. For example, my Final Fantasy XI development project includes several jobs, each with its own GearSwap automation, equipment optimization, testing, and implementation conversations.
All of these workflows depend on shared Project instructions, reference files, and development methodology.
The current limitation
As development progresses, the number of conversations increases considerably, particularly when Work handoffs create additional conversations. Without folders, locating and managing related conversations becomes cumbersome.
Creating separate Projects for each job isn’t an ideal solution because it fragments shared resources and project-wide continuity.
Proposed functionality
-
Allow users to create, rename, move, and delete folders within a Project.
-
Support nested folders for organizing conversations by topic, job, subsystem, or workflow.
-
Allow existing conversations and Work-generated conversations to be moved into folders.
-
Preserve shared Project instructions, files, and context regardless of which folder contains a conversation.
-
Provide collapsible folders in the Project sidebar.

Shared Testing Resources
Why this matters
Projects are particularly valuable because they bring related work together under shared instructions and resources. Nested folders would make that structure scalable for users managing complex, long-running projects.
This would improve navigation without requiring users to sacrifice project continuity or create multiple Projects simply to organize their conversations.
Thank you for considering this improvement.
