Feature Request: Set Default Grammar and Spelling to a Non-American English Region

Overview:

I would like to request a feature that allows users to set a default grammar and spelling preference in ChatGPT, such as United Kingdom English. Currently, even though users can specify their preference in the “How would you like ChatGPT to respond?” section, it often defaults back to American English. A permanent setting would ensure consistency in all responses.

Key Features:

  1. Customisable Language Settings:

• Users can set their preferred grammar and spelling style (e.g., UK English) as the default.

• This preference would apply consistently across all responses, preventing the default to American English.

  1. Persistent Application:

• The chosen setting would remain stable across all sessions, ensuring that the selected language style is always used.

Benefits:

Consistent Output: Ensures all responses align with the user’s preferred language style.

Improved Experience: Reduces the need to repeatedly specify preferences, avoiding the issue of defaulting to American English.

Conclusion:

This feature would enhance the reliability and user-friendliness of ChatGPT by allowing users to set and maintain their preferred grammar and spelling style as the default.

I second this request. I too have set a memory preference for English (UK) spelling and grammar but often get replies in American English.

Please consider adding English(UK) as a language setting as it’s very frustrating to continually ask for the reply to be regenerated with corrected spelling when using ChatGPT to refine/proof copy and code.

I have the inverse issue. I want it to be American and o3 model constantly gives me British spelling even in the API. A switch would be very handy. We may disagree on spelling, but we agree that we need a flag to set our preferred spelling
