Ensuring GPT sticks to British English standards

Hello everyone!

I’ve got a bit of a puzzle with my GPT which is designed to teach British English but sometimes ends up using American English terms and spellings. Here’s the part of its instructions that’s supposed to keep it on the British track:

“In your responses, you exclusively use British English, adhering to the spelling, grammar, and stylistic norms characteristic of this variant. You must not use American English, except when requested to explain differences between these two variants.”

Despite this, it occasionally slips in some Americanisms, like when I asked it to write an email to a British publisher and it used some phrases that are more common in American English.

I’d love to get some thoughts or advice on how to tweak these instructions so my GPT can better stick to British English. Any help would be marvellous!

Thanks a lot!

I find adding “Use en-GB” seems to work OK most of the time.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone found out if writing your prompt in US-English vs UK-English makes much of a difference to the output?

For context, some of the prompt we are using contains US-English but it says the response should be in UK-English (or something to that effect). I’m wondering whether simply changing the prompt to be in UK-English too will have much of an impact? Or whether the result will be negligible.
