Hi OpenAI Team,
Similar ideas may have been shared before, but I’m reiterating here to highlight the urgent need for persistent memory across sessions — something that could greatly enhance ChatGPT’s usefulness for real-world, long-term work.
Problem:
- Currently, ChatGPT cannot remember past conversations across sessions.
- Users working on technical, creative, or research projects must re-upload materials or re-explain background information repeatedly.
- This disrupts flow, wastes valuable time, and limits ChatGPT’s potential as a true collaborative partner.
Proposed Solution:
- Introduce optional, user-controlled memory linked to project titles or session IDs.
- Allow users to enable or disable context recall individually for each session (per-session opt-in).
- Let users view, update, or delete stored memory anytime.
- Ensure full transparency and respect for user privacy.
Why It Matters:
- Saves enormous time and effort across days, months, or even years of work.
- Enables ChatGPT to be a true long-term collaborator, not just a one-session contributor.
- Turns ChatGPT into a trusted, evolving partner for complex and meaningful projects.
Thank you OpenAI for considering this important enhancement.
best regards,
-Darshan Maharana
