Hi everyone,
I’d like to suggest a feature that I think could really enhance the ChatGPT experience: the option for users to opt in to memory so the model can remember key details between sessions.
I understand that memory touches on important concerns like privacy, but I believe an opt-in model would allow users who want a more continuous and personalized experience to benefit — while still preserving user choice and control.
Why this could help:
Tailored conversations: ChatGPT could recall preferences, projects, or goals, making responses more contextually rich and helpful.
Less repetition: No need to re-explain your background or creative project every time you chat.
Long-term support: It would be ideal for users doing multi-step tasks over time (e.g., writing a book, learning a language, working on a business plan).
Privacy & Control Suggestions:
Let users see what’s remembered and delete or edit it anytime.
Make memory fully opt-in (off by default).
Provide reminders or transparency prompts about what’s being stored.
I’m curious if others would find value in this, or if something like it is already in the works. OpenAI team: if this idea has already been explored, I’d love to hear more.
Thanks for reading!
