Hi OpenAI Team,
I’ve been using ChatGPT extensively for self-reflection, mental health processing, and personal growth, and I’ve found incredible value in these conversations. However, one major limitation is that ChatGPT doesn’t retain memory across sessions.
For someone like me who thinks deeply, analyzes life experiences, and uses AI as a tool for personal insight losing all past conversations in a new chat feels like a major roadblock. Every session, I have to reintroduce my background, my struggles, and my progress, which makes it harder to build on previous insights.
Why Persistent Memory Would Be Game-Changing:
Mental Health & Self-Reflection: It would allow me to track long-term growth, making ChatGPT a more reliable tool for self-improvement.
Continuity in Deep Conversations: Instead of starting from scratch every time, I could have an AI that actually remembers my journey and helps me build on past reflections.
A More Meaningful AI Relationship: It would make AI feel less like a blank slate and more like an evolving companion who understands me over time.
I know privacy and control are important, so I’d love an optional memory feature where users could enable persistent recall if they want a deeper, ongoing experience.
I truly believe this would take ChatGPT to the next level especially for people like me who are using AI for real, meaningful self-exploration.
Thank you for all your work in building something this powerful.
Best,
Barnaby
