Dear OpenAI Team,
I would like to share a feature request that I believe would significantly enhance the user experience and deepen the quality of interactions with ChatGPT.
Currently, each new conversation starts without full awareness of previous discussions, requiring users to reintroduce themselves, their preferences, and prior context. While this is understandable from a privacy and design standpoint, it creates a barrier to forming a more natural, continuous, and meaningful interaction over time.
I would like to suggest an optional, user-controlled feature that allows ChatGPT to access and reference past conversations within a user’s profile. This would enable the assistant to:
-
Recognize returning users and recall established context
-
Build continuity across conversations
-
Provide more personalized and relevant responses
-
Develop a more natural and engaging conversational dynamic
Importantly, this feature should be:
-
Fully transparent to the user
-
Explicitly opt-in
-
Easily manageable (with options to review, edit, or delete stored context)
This feature would improve long-term engagement and user satisfaction by transforming ChatGPT from a session-based tool into a more consistent and relatable conversational partner.
Thank you for your work and for considering this feedback.
Best regards,
Taner
