Feature Request: Make Interactive Assessment a Native Part of ChatGPT’s Learning Experience

I would like to propose making Interactive Assessment / Knowledge Check a native part of ChatGPT’s learning experience.

I use ChatGPT quite often for self-directed learning. One thing I repeatedly find myself wanting after studying a large amount of material is:

“Now test me on what I actually remember.”

ChatGPT can already generate quizzes, and Study Mode provides knowledge checks and feedback. Users can also create specialized educational workflows through Custom GPTs.

So I am not suggesting that quizzes or knowledge checks are completely missing from ChatGPT.

My suggestion is to take these existing capabilities one step further and make assessment a dedicated, native part of the learning flow.

The learning loop I have in mind is:

Learn → Practice → Test → Measure → Identify gaps → Review → Retest

For example, after studying a topic, ChatGPT could offer:

“Ready to test your knowledge?”

The user could choose:

  • 5, 10, or 20 questions

  • Multiple Choice, True or False, or Mixed

  • Practice Mode, Assessment Mode, or Exam Mode

What I Mean by “Interactive”

The important part is that this would not simply be ChatGPT generating a list of questions in text. The answers themselves could be clickable UI elements.

For example:

Question 4 of 10

What is the main purpose of modular architecture?

A. To divide a complex system into relatively independent modules

B. To eliminate standardization

C. To make every component unique

D. To centralize all production

The user clicks an answer. ChatGPT automatically records it and provides feedback depending on the selected mode.

At the end, the user could receive something like:

Knowledge Check Complete

Score: 8/10
Percentage: 80%
Correct: 8
Incorrect: 2

Strong areas:
Terminology, basic concepts

Areas to review:
Module interaction, system architecture

ChatGPT could then offer:

“Would you like to review the concepts you missed and take a short retest?”

Why I Think This Could Be More Than Just a Quiz

The most interesting part is what happens after the score.

If ChatGPT knows what the user got wrong, it can immediately turn that information into the next learning step.

For example:

The user studies a topic → takes an assessment → gets 70% → ChatGPT identifies two weak concepts → explains them → generates three targeted questions → the user retakes them.

This creates a closed learning loop:

Learn → Assess → Diagnose → Review → Retest

This could make assessment an actual part of the learning process rather than simply an end-of-session quiz.

Existing Custom GPTs vs. a Native Feature

I also think Custom GPTs are an important part of this discussion.

Specialized GPTs demonstrate that users can already create educational experiences around specific workflows.

However, there is a difference between:

“This capability can be created somewhere in the ChatGPT ecosystem”

and

“This capability is a natural part of ChatGPT’s core learning experience.”

A user should not necessarily have to know which Custom GPT to search for or how to construct a specialized workflow simply because they want to test what they have learned.

If someone has just spent 40 minutes studying a topic in ChatGPT, “Test My Knowledge” could simply be the natural next step.

Possible Future Development

Once the basic assessment system exists, it could potentially develop into:

  • Adaptive testing

  • Spaced repetition

  • Personalized review

  • Long-term knowledge tracking

  • Progress across different subjects

  • Automatic identification of recurring knowledge gaps

  • Personalized learning plans based on assessment results

MVP

A first version could include:

  • Clickable answer options

  • Automatic answer validation

  • Score calculation

  • Percentage calculation

  • Immediate or end-of-test feedback

  • Explanations of incorrect answers

  • Identification of weak areas

  • Automatically generated retests

Why I Am Suggesting This

This idea came from my own experience using ChatGPT for learning.

When I study something complicated, I do not only want another explanation. At some point I want to know:

“Do I actually know this, or did I just recognize it while reading?”

That distinction is extremely important in learning.

ChatGPT is already very effective at helping users understand information. I think there is an opportunity to make it equally natural for ChatGPT to help users measure, reinforce, and retain that knowledge.

Broader Vision: ChatGPT as a Personal Learning System

The broader concept would be:

Learn → Practice → Assess → Analyze → Review → Retest → Track Progress

Rather than simply adding another quiz feature, this would connect the different stages of learning into one native experience.

The goal is not to replace Study Mode or Custom GPTs, but to build on what already exists and make assessment a more integrated part of ChatGPT’s core educational experience.

Closing

This proposal comes from a simple user need:

After learning something in ChatGPT, I want to be able to click “Test My Knowledge” and immediately see what I actually retained.

I believe making this a native part of the learning experience could make ChatGPT more useful not only as an AI tutor, but as a personal learning system.

Would love to hear what other users think. Would you use a native “Test My Knowledge” feature after studying a topic in ChatGPT?
