I would like to suggest a practical feature for ChatGPT:

Jobsite Vision / Field Measurement Mode

I am a paying ChatGPT user in Belgium, and I also run a construction-related business. Around 20 workers in my field environment already use ChatGPT from their phones in real work situations.

This is not a theoretical AI use case.

They use ChatGPT on-site and in building-supply stores to ask practical questions:

  • identifying pipes, fittings, and sizes;

  • checking materials and compatibility;

  • asking about paint preparation and surface problems;

  • taking photos of worksite issues and asking what they are looking at;

  • reducing unnecessary calls, mistakes, wrong purchases, and rework.

One feature would be extremely useful for workers, construction teams, repair technicians, maintenance workers, bakers, and other non-office professionals:

a photo-based measurement and scale-assistance mode.

For example, ChatGPT could estimate approximate dimensions or proportions from a photo when a reference object is present:

  • tape measure;

  • ruler;

  • A4 sheet;

  • credit card;

  • known tile size;

  • standard pipe;

  • door frame;

  • brick;

  • level or other measuring tool.

The feature should not pretend to give certified measurements. It should clearly say when the estimate is approximate, provide confidence ranges, ask for a second angle if needed, warn about perspective distortion, and remind the user to verify critical dimensions manually.

This would be useful for:

  • pipe and fitting identification;

  • estimating wall or ceiling areas;

  • paint and material planning;

  • checking proportions;

  • understanding labels on material bags;

  • construction-store decisions;

  • repair and maintenance work;

  • practical training for workers.

The main point is simple:

A worker who avoids one wrong purchase, one wasted trip, one material mistake, or one hour of rework has already paid for the model.

Please keep building for people who work with their hands, not only for office users.

ChatGPT is already becoming a real field tool. A Jobsite Vision / Field Measurement Mode would make it much more useful, safer, and more practical.

A field-focused vision mode with approximate measurements and safety checks is definitely worth sharing with the team.
