Hello OpenAI Team,
I wanted to share an idea that I think could make ChatGPT even more useful.
I’m someone who spends a lot of time building, restoring and repairing things in my workshop. I’ve been using ChatGPT throughout my projects, from diagnosing electrical faults with a multimeter to designing custom equipment and identifying mystery parts I’ve found.
One feature that I think would be incredibly valuable is a true live video workshop mode.
Rather than taking photos every few minutes, imagine being able to have a live conversation where ChatGPT can see what I’m working on in real time while we talk.
For example:
“Can you have a look at this bracket? Does it look square?”
“Watch while I run this motor. Does anything stand out?”
“Can you see a better place to mount this part?”
“I’m about to drill here. Does that seem sensible?”
“Can you identify this component if I rotate it?”
This wouldn’t just benefit people in workshops. I can imagine it being useful for DIY, vehicle repairs, cooking, gardening, education, science experiments, home maintenance, and many other practical tasks.
What I like most about ChatGPT is that it feels collaborative. Many projects don’t have a fixed plan. They evolve through discussion, trying ideas, changing direction and solving problems together. A live video mode would make that collaboration feel much more natural.
Thank you for all the work you’re doing. ChatGPT has already become one of my favourite tools when I’m building and repairing things, and I think a feature like this could make it even more useful for makers, engineers, DIY enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys creating.
