Hi OpenAI Team,
I’m writing to request a much-needed feature: a file storage usage meter or dashboard within ChatGPT (especially for Pro and Team/Enterprise accounts). Currently, users are limited to 10GB of file storage (and 100GB per org), along with individual file size limits—but there’s no built-in way to track how much space we’ve used or how close we are to the limit.
This creates unnecessary friction when managing files, especially for users who regularly upload datasets, documents, or custom GPT knowledge files.
Here’s what would solve this:
- A simple visual graph or percentage bar showing total used vs. total allowed storage.
- Breakdown by file type (e.g., images, PDFs, spreadsheets).
- Warnings or notifications when nearing the quota.
- Optionally, an API endpoint or settings panel showing per-file token counts or storage weight.
This would drastically improve transparency and allow users to plan intelligently instead of reacting to errors or failed uploads.
Thanks for all the innovation—just hoping we can get a basic tool to manage our usage in a smarter way.
Best,
William West
