I would love an option to convert a temporary chat into a normal chat in ChatGPT.
Right now, temporary chats disappear once the session ends. Sometimes, I realize later that I need the conversation, but there’s no way to recover it.

:sparkles: How it would help:

  • Avoid losing important discussions.
  • Allow users to continue temporary chats if they become useful.
  • Improve usability without forcing users to keep everything permanent.

:hammer_and_wrench: Suggested Implementation:

  • A “Convert to Normal Chat” button in temporary chats.
  • Or a setting that asks before closing a temporary session.

Would anyone else find this useful? OpenAI team, please consider adding this!

I fullheartedly agree with this feature suggestion! I’d just like to have the content!
Especially so because of the platform instability for the past week, which made normal chats unstable and hallucinate. Memory breeds bias and mimicry, especially the more technical it gets, so a blank slate is useful once you set the prompt tone right and often the temp chats lead to the best conversations. I think the most explosive feedback loop chaos got shut down to some level in the past 24 hours - kudos to the devs but mostly thanks to all the users forcing precisions. Yet. Platform-wide and strain still make temporary chats the go-to. And you can cut off if it’s even too bad there!
