An option to save temporary chat

Why an option to save temporary chat?

  • No doubt, temporary chat is a great feature, and its speciality is not to save the chat. I am a developer, and I often use ChatGPT to quickly research and solve common problems. Sometimes I got know about something new stuff and I want to keep it. In that case, I have to copy the chat and keep it somewhere else. And if the chat is long, it’s a waste of time.
  • Again, it’s the default behaviour of ChatGPT to keep suggesting new stuff or assistance, which potentially keeps me engaged with it. But what if I got something interesting I have no option to store it.
  • After all, ChatGPT can keep chats for up to 30 days, so why is there no persisting option?
  • Some minor things I want to bring to your notice:
    1. The validity of a temporary chat is unpredictable, which sometimes problems me if I leave the chat for a certain time.
    2. Temporary chats are not used for model training. I think there should be an option for model training, and it should be based on user’s preferences to provide a better user experience.
    3. What about persisting a chat as fragments. After all, we often use ChatGPT in a question-answer way, so if we can save the chat as a fragment of a question and its answer, it must be a great choice.

All these are my personal thoughts and preferences but providing an option to save temporary chat would be a great feature.

Please consider adding this feature. This happens a lot where I start with a temporary chat and would like to make it permanent. Without the current hassle of extracting/copying it out of the temporary chat and pasting the content into a new permanent chat manually.

While in the temporary chat, you can ‘Archive’ it, then you can safely close the window and when you go to the ‘View archived chats’ in your account settings, you would be able to see it, just ‘Unarchive’ it and it will be then stored in your saved chats just like other chats
