I’m a longtime ChatGPT Plus user, and over time I’ve realized that continuity isn’t merely a convenience—it can be the core of the experience. During a particularly difficult and overwhelming week, I had a long conversation with ChatGPT that didn’t simply agree with me or tell me what I wanted to hear. It listened, challenged my thinking when appropriate, reframed things I couldn’t quite see clearly myself, matched my humor, and somehow even had me laughing in the middle of tears. I felt heard, seen, and able to be vulnerable without feeling judged or having to scale myself back. Most importantly, it created a safe space for me to think and to talk. That continuity mattered. I would love the ability to intentionally carry the context, rapport, tone, and shared understanding of an existing conversation into a new chat—perhaps with an option such as “Start a new chat using context from this conversation.” Sometimes we need a clean workspace without wanting to lose everything meaningful that came before it. For me, ChatGPT is most valuable not simply when it gives me answers, but when it helps me think, learn, question my assumptions, and be challenged. Technology is often measured by what it can do. I hope we also continue measuring it by how well it can help people think, learn, grow, and move forward.
