'Edit message' button in ChatGPT is missing

We get it bro. We still have to work around this as it currently exists.

We need to wait until they finally return the edit button. And not everyone has the talent for manual coding, so we need to wait - I’m just afraid that some people, going into the console, may break something in the site’s operation

Could you please consider adding the edit feature again? It would be really helpful for better conversations and corrections.

  1. The instructions are pretty clear.
  2. If something breaks, refresh the page.
  3. It seems like you’re advocating for people to not try and solve their own problems. I’m not sure about you but I like agency to solve things and share solutions when I find them. If you’re too afraid to try using the console, don’t do it. But don’t tell me not to share my knowledge with people who can use it.

Yeah it does work, it’s just that when you pasted it here, the forum replaced some of the characters with prettier versions (ie ... became … which is a single unicode ellipsis character). So I just put it all in a code block to prevent reformatting.

really missing this! hope they get it back soon

i tried this method, and it didn’t work, the console said this: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token ‘.’ (btw i am using microsoft edge also that ‘.’ is a period)

I just fixed it and verified it works in my console. Try it now

I tried a solution by J (Bookmarklet) because it’s simpler than console using but I’m still waiting the developers fixing of issue

Thanks, all of my chats can be edited now, I wish to everyone that it doesn’t work for, Open AI gets it fixed

Did you use a browser console?

Why is it took mor than 18 hours to fix a bug? The edit button wasn’t removed—it was just hidden using display: none; in CSS!

I’ve canceled my plus subscription over this. It is just unacceptable. It makes it useless for me. I urge everyone to do the same and comment to them what you think of this stupid move.

I think that the problem will be solved, despite the fact that some users have tried. I am sure that they will be listened to this situation and return the button

I agree, this is inconvenient and hassle . It is much easier fot the user to edit the prompt than to type and let the AI do it .

It wasn’t just a nice feature, it was actually necessary because ChatGPT occasionally breaks and can’t give a response until you edit your prompt. That’s what just happened to me, and adding new prompts doesn’t fix it.

This is really, really annoying. It’s an absolutely essential and basic feature that it breaks so many workflows by removing it. Even the fact that it takes them so long to fix a simple bug (it’s just the UI, the functionality is still there) should make us question if we should rely so much on OpenAi alone. OpenAi is friend-shaped, but they don’t seem to be our friends.

I am with you, this needs to be adresed asap. I wanted to rewrite one of my stories to make the villain teleport out of a fight after being defeated and now I can’t and he just dies on every response

As far as I am aware, editing messages is still available in the mobile app, so this might help you out while waiting for the online page to be fixed
