I also hope this is a bug and not an “improvement” of the software.
DALL-E becomes useless to me if only webp format can be downloaded.
I’m in total agreement. Won’t renew subscription unless fixed.
The fact we’ve been completely ignored tells us this is not a bug, and that OpenAI’s attitude is we should eat whatever is put on our plate and like it.
I’ll add my voice to this. I recently upgraded to paid ChatGPT, in part for the Dall-E image generation. However, I have to edit every photo in photoshop and webp is horrible for this. If I have to convert every image on top of that … I’ll probably drop the paid version and take that money elsewhere.
I’m on the enterprise version and I am experiencing the same inconveniences. Just saying.
After hitting the same issue and trying many of the solutions offered I think the problem is around the download of the webp file not the file itself. I am on a Mac and if I Ctrl click (right click mouse) on the generated image and use the Save File As option, still as webp image it downloads witha preview and opens using Preview, if I download the file in DAL-E using the download link, little arrow, no preview is generated on the file and it won’t open throwing an error.
Well they just pushed their potential gold mine to Midjourney! Stupid knuckle heads!
I ran into the same problem today. But I found a workaround. Right click and copy the image, then go into any photo editing software you have. I use Paint dot net and Photoshop and then copy the image into a blank document. Then you can save it as a PNG file. The extra steps are supremely annoying but at least you can then save your graphic. Hope that helps everyone! ![]()
this AI is less AI than last week… I am using the same prompts and they give totally different results…
very disappointing discovery actually, even if there are ways around WEBP format is useless crap! btw one of the ways around - it looks like we can still save it as JPG from Android app, not PNG but better than this nonsense
That doesn’t work unless your editing software supports WebP. I use CS3 which has no native WebP support, and Google’s plugin won’t work with CS3. And because I use Windows 7, none of the software which can turn WebP into PNG will run for in my OS. I am forced to use external websites to convert it. Totally unacceptable to make a change like this with no notice or consultation and to completely ignore their own support forums.
I’m working on an image of Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld right now. Check out this figure. This looks like something from an old version of Stable Diffusion. Four blobby toes, a busted lip, a deformed thigh, fingers all messed up, it’s awful. And look at the candelabra-type thing. This was actually my third try, and the others were worse. In its current state, DALL-E 3 is unusable, at least for anything approaching realism.
You can still download photos in format ChatGPT is displaying and also ask ChatGPT to create script to automatically save it in jpg png or whatever. Works normal for me and everything is done in a way at the end most of the time I don’t even realize it was in different format during download. Anyway, this format has it’s benefits as well, try using paint.net with it on Windows and I think you will be satisfied.
Just a heads-up for people following this thread, my post was edited by admin to remove “bug” from the tags, so we can take this as confirmation that this wasn’t a mistake and they don’t plan to change it. Or, apparently, respond to it.
DALL-E images downloading as .webp now NOT as .png and also opening a duplicate .webp image on my browser tab that i then need to close, KILLING MY WORKFLOW. FIX IT OPENAI DEVS
EDIT: My Bad, I thought this was OpenAI Customer Support Forum, pissed as i hate double handling
I thought it might be just a chrome thing, but it in Brave browser too. I downloaded the extension Save Image Type and that’s my current workaround. It’s very frustrating.
I have tried creating images of animals and some appear with hornes when they shouldn’t or with more than 4 legs. They need to fix this as we pay for the service
Hello Open Ai, Will you fix this issue ??? Please write something to our community. If it will work as it works now, i’m sure that a lot of people will get out of your subscribtion!!!
I’ve passed this on to relevant people, but I haven’t heard anything back yet.
When I do, I’ll be sure to share here.
I would like to say, that I’m still getting good JPG out of the API. I realize ChatGPT Plus for $20/month is a huge value, but I have to imagine they were losing a lot of money, even with normal thread restrictions. That said, I’m not sure if that’s what’s going on with the .webp, but it would make sense to me if I were trying to keep the service up for everyone.
There’s quite a few API tools (mine included) that offer all sorts of features, depending on what you want…
Again, I’ll report back if I hear anything about DALLE on ChatGPT Plus. But don’t forget about all the great API apps!
I was honestly a bit surprised by the sudden switch to WEBP format, but I’m using a plugin from the Google WebM Project for Adobe Photoshop, and it opens images just fine. Now that I`m testing things… I haven’t noticed any loss in image quality; WEBP seems to be lossless in terms of quality, just more space-efficient than PNG. For now, this works for me.
