Hi all — I’ve encountered a serious issue affecting all of my Custom GPTs.
Even after uploading files during configuration and clicking “Update,” the files vanish as soon as I return to the Configure tab. This affects both existing GPTs and newly created ones.
Confirmed behaviors:
- Files upload successfully and work in-session
- Files disappear from config UI after saving
- Rebuilding GPTs doesn’t help
- Files are all .txt/.yaml and within size limits
- No error messages shown
- Happens across browsers and devices
This is breaking multiple logic-driven GPTs I’ve built (MIR, EAG, etc.), which rely on structured YAML + TXT files for modular ecosystem governance.
I’ve contacted support but received generic chatbot responses. I’m posting here in the hope a staff member can escalate this to engineering.
Happy to provide logs, screenshots, and videos of the case.

I have the same issue.
Across all Custom GPTS on both Windows desktop app and through Chrome browser.
Interestingly it seems able to retain it when i DELETE files off the Knowledge base, but not when I try to upload something. It is simply stuck as Update Pending, even though updates seem as they go through as usual (including the dialogue box confirming the update appearing as normal). As OP I use smaller markdown txt files, and they are all well below both limits and size. Yesterday everything worked as normal, today it stopped.
When I switch to a workbased team, the issue is not present. This somehow seems isolated to one of my accounts (personal) specifically, with no seeming explanation.
creating new custom gpt solved it for me.

Really? Great, I’ll try.
Did creating a new one solve the issue on all the old ones, or do you mean you simply made a new one and replicated the relevant uploads and instructions on every one of your custom GPTs to have them work?
Thanks
Never mind, none of those made any difference in my situation. I’ve spent two full working days trying to manage and handle this. If the custom GPTs cant really be customised minimally, why do I need a Plus plan at all? This is frustrating.
I tried deleting all current chats, and removed lots of files (all are small txt files) from the custom GPTs, but to no avail. Updates pending persists.
did you by change created an organization by mistake?
Not by mistake, but yes I did recently (right before this issue) create an organization.
I have suspected that this issue might be related to something with the organisation, team structure for workspaces/dev platform and different users.
Have you found that something there was the issue, how did you resolve it?
that is your problem then, just recreate all the gpt.
Thank you so far. Just to clarify, do you mean:
a) Delete and recreate all the custom GPTS and that will help, or
b) delete the organisation and so on, and then recreate the GPTs`?
Appreciate your help.
you cant delete the organization (it will delete your custom gpts)
what you can do is asign the organization to a pseudo id, and leave the org with your main id
no need to delete old custom gpts you can simply create a new custom gpt with the same framework (you dont loose your old sessions this way)
