Convert Temporary Chat to Saved Chat

Temporary Chat is useful for quick or private conversations, but sometimes a temporary conversation becomes important later. For example, a user may start a temporary chat for a quick question, but the conversation may turn into valuable research, code debugging, planning, or documentation.

Currently, Temporary Chats do not appear in chat history, so users may lose important conversations if they forget to copy or export them manually.

Please consider adding an option to convert a Temporary Chat into a normal saved chat. This could be done with a “Save this chat” or “Convert to saved chat” button. Before saving, ChatGPT could show a confirmation message explaining that the chat will now appear in history and follow the user’s normal data/settings preferences.

Useful options could include:

  • Save the full Temporary Chat

  • Save only a summary

  • Rename the chat before saving

  • Export the chat without saving it

  • Show a warning before closing a long Temporary Chat

This would preserve the privacy-first purpose of Temporary Chat while giving users a way to keep important conversations when needed.

Hey @smhz101! Good callout. A few people have mentioned the same thing: Temporary Chats are useful, but it’s easy to accidentally lose something valuable when a quick chat turns into real work.

Having an optional Save this chat flow, with clear confirmation before it enters history, would be a nice middle ground.I can’t share a timeline right now, but I’ll make sure this gets shared internally.
