Codex Account Just Got Banned - I Have No Idea Why, Please help

Hi Guys

My codex account just got banned. I have no idea why.

I’ve just been vibe coding my own apps, I had a personal codex account and one I used for business. I read everywhere that this way okay.

I was building personal apps for myself and running it through stress testing

Then out of nowhere it just got my account banned with no explanation

If anybody can help me I would really appreciate it, I don’t know what to do?

how do you mean it was banned? Did OAI write you saying your account was banned? And for a specific reason? Feels like they would tell you the reason. Any screenshot you can share showing this ban?

Unfortunately, forum users can’t directly help with account issues. Those need to be reviewed by the appropriate Support team.

Hi everyone,

I logged in today and found that my ChatGPT account has been banned. The message said my account was disabled because of recent activity that allegedly violated the Terms and Usage Policies.

The problem is that I’m not aware of doing anything against the rules, and I’d genuinely like to understand what happened so I can correct it or appeal.

When I try to log in, I get this message:
“Your account has been deleted or disabled. If you believe this is an error, please contact the Help Center with the request ID below.”

Has anyone experienced something similar? Is the Help Center (help.openai.com) the right place to appeal, and roughly how long does a review usually take? Any advice on what to include in the appeal would be really appreciated.

Same thing happened to me just now..

I have been a ChatGPT user for approximately two years and a paying subscriber for the past seven months. Recently, my account was permanently deactivated without any prior warning. After submitting multiple appeals, I have still not received a substantive response regarding the reason for the deactivation, so I am posting here in the hope of obtaining clarification and a manual review.

Posting here because the standard appeal channel has produced no human response at all!

I value OpenAI’s products and services and am not posting this to criticize anyone or attack the company. I am simply seeking an explanation of what occurred and an opportunity to have my case reviewed after exhausting the normal appeal channels.

The account was permanently deactivated with zero prior warnings. At no point did I receive a warning, temporary suspension, request for clarification, or any indication that my usage raised compliance concerns. The deactivation came as a complete surprise.

The notification I received referenced a violation of OpenAI’s Terms of Service or Usage Policies, but it did not identify any specific conversation, action, or policy provision that was allegedly violated. As a result, I have no meaningful way to understand what occurred or how to address it.

To address some of the common questions directly:

Account Sharing: None. The account was used exclusively by me.

Automation: I do not run scripts, bots, automated scraping tools, or automated systems against ChatGPT, Codex, or OpenAI services.

Payments: No chargebacks, disputed payments, or billing issues.

Content: I have never intentionally attempted to jailbreak, bypass, or circumvent OpenAI’s safety systems.

I don’t use any kind of VPN either.

Because I am unaware of any conduct that would justify a permanent ban, I am concerned that my account may have been incorrectly flagged or that an enforcement action may have been applied in error.

I respectfully request a manual review of my case. If possible, I would greatly appreciate information regarding the specific activity, conversation, or policy provision that led to the deactivation so that I can better understand the basis for the decision.

As a long-time user and paying subscriber, I would be grateful for the opportunity to resolve this matter. If a mistake has occurred, I kindly ask that my account be reinstated.

Literally the Same thing with the Same use cases and the same email happened to me at the same time, that cant be a coincidence

Yep same here. I’m working on multiple project and just woke up to a deactivation with absolutely no warning. I am stunned they would operate like this. I filed an appeal but reality is I don’t care what they come back with. To do this with a BUSINESS related item - my Codex account that is highly active…yeah…OpenAI can F off. If they do re-instate me, I’ll immediately cancel my $200 a month. I am livid they would do this without warning. Not like they are even close to the only game in town.

This right here is why I will no longer do business with them. They could not care less about small companies.

It happened to me. Now it’s resolved. BUT my pro account is now forced to free account. Why??? I paid 5 days ago.

Yeah, this just cost you guys a customer. I lost almost 4 hours today.
