When using ChatGPT Chats across devices the chats usually appear quickly once created on another device but the other way around never works.
When deleting or archiving a chat on one device, the chat does disappear there but remains visible on all others. Ehen trying to delete/archive it there its not working because the chat no longer exists. So the list grows, making things unorganized without any way for me to clean up.
I assume logging in and out could fix it but I don’t want to do that constantly.
Good to see you again, @Till41. I can see how frustrating it is when deleted or archived chats keep showing up on other devices.
There was a recent outage affecting conversations, which may have contributed to the syncing behavior you’re seeing.
Are you still running into this? If so, please email support@openai.com with a screen recording and, if possible, a sanitized HAR file so the team can investigate the sync issue further.

Gather a list of the stale chats. Open a new work chat. Tell chatGPT you have chats that were deleted but aren’t being removed from the list. Ask it to check with the cloud to see if these chats have been deleted.
If they are then ask it to make a backup of the database. Then ask chatGPT to remove them and to clear the entries also from the built in web browser cache.
Once complete, exit out of the app including out of the tray and come back in, they should hopefully be gone.
Thanks for sharing these troubleshooting steps, @Barry_k. Hopefully they’re useful for anyone else running into stale chats that remain visible after deletion.
Since it’s been 5 days without a response, we’ll go ahead and close this case. If the issue persists, please reach out to support@openai.com for further help.
