Okay, so these past few months I had a bit of a struggle with a bunch of my conversations in my archive. They failed to load, I wanted to go through them in some way, and support failed to mention that I need to get a converter for the conversation json. Now I can read them again, but they’re still broken. But since I already exported them, I had no reason to keep them in the archiv, so I wanted to delete them. Only to get a “Delete failed” error message for every one of those chats. Which is strange, because I did menage to delete one of them a month ago. Does anybody have any suggestions that don’t involve the “delete all chats” nuclear option? Because I still have plenty of conversations ongoing, and I fear that not even that option would delete the faulty ones.
Hi @Mattaro,
Does this happen everywhere or only in one place? For example, have you tried deleting the affected archived chats from ChatGPT web, the iOS/Android app, the desktop app and possibly another browser?
Thanks for sharing the details, @Mattaro. That definitely sounds frustrating, especially after getting the conversations exported and finding they're still stuck when you try to delete them.
Also appreciate @LarisaHaster asking an important question. Are you still seeing the same "Delete failed" error?
If so, could you let us know whether this only happens in one place, or if you've tried deleting the affected archived chats from:
- ChatGPT on the web
- the desktop app
- the iOS or Android app (if applicable)
- a different browser
If it's still happening across platforms, it would be really helpful if you could record a HAR file while attempting to delete one of the archived conversations. Please attach the HAR file to the support case you already created, then share your case ID here. That will make it easier for the team to keep an eye on the case and step in if needed.
Hopefully we can narrow down what's causing those specific archived chats to get stuck.

Yeah, I was on web first (opera and chrome), then I tried it on Android, iOS and lastly the desktop app. Same result across the board, I’m afraid
As already mentioned, yes, sadly I still get the error. platforms include web (OperaGX, Chrome, and Edge. I forgot to mention the last one), the desktop app, iOS and Android.
I haven’t opened a support case yet, but I’ll get definitely get to it and send you the ID shortly.
Thanks for confirming, @Mattaro. Since the same error is happening across multiple browsers, the desktop app, iOS, and Android, opening a support case is the right next step.
Once you post the case ID here, we’ll keep an eye on it. If you're able to include a HAR file from one of the failed delete attempts with the case, that should also give the team a bit more to work with.

Hi folks, this issue has already been reported. The latest updates will be shared on the status page as they become available.

Thanks for the reports, folks. This issue should now be resolved.
If you’re still seeing it, please record a HAR file while trying to delete an archived conversation and attach it to a support case via support@openai.com.
