ChatGPT UI Navigation & PDF Export Features

I’d like to suggest the following usability improvements for ChatGPT:

  • A “mini map” or outline of the conversation, especially useful for long chats — ideally with collapsible sections or visual markers.
  • Ability to star or bookmark specific locations in a conversation for quick reference.
  • Keyboard shortcuts (e.g. Alt + ↑ / Alt + ↓) to quickly step between prompt/response pairs.
  • One-click PDF export of specific responses or conversation segments — Markdown exports often require post-formatting and don’t preserve layout well for formal documentation or academic reference.

Another idea or two: annotate the minimap to include a hovering text label that summarizes that part of the conversation. Often topics drift or take a detour necessary to break down larger conversations before optionally rejoining to the greater theme. My original formulation of this idea was sort of like source control fork / branch / merge etc. mechanics but even just the ability to easily navigate a conversation history and recreate context as you wish is more straightforward. Intuition tells me there is a lot of room for obvious improvements here, but you get the gist. A way to branch, talk about the “side quest” without drifting the main conversation thread, then merge the relevant context back when you’re satisfied with the branch conversation. It would even be nice to be able to direct the branch conversation to assemble a summary of context with guidance to inform the main thread and switch back. Something like that.
