Feature Suggestions for Improved Navigation and Accessibility in ChatGPT

I wanted to share some feature suggestions that could improve navigation and usability, especially for users who engage in extended chats.

  1. Keyboard Shortcuts for Navigating Prompts/Responses: It would be incredibly helpful to have keyboard shortcuts that allow users to jump to the next or previous prompt/response. This would save time and make navigating through long conversations more seamless.

  2. Ability to Link to Individual Prompts/Responses: While the ability to link to an entire chat is useful, being able to generate a link for a specific prompt or response within a chat would be a game-changer. This would simplify sharing or revisiting specific parts of lengthy conversations.

These additions would be particularly valuable for Pro users, who often engage in longer and more detailed interactions.

Thank you for your continuous efforts in improving ChatGPT. I’m excited to see how the platform evolves!

I totally agree with both of these suggestions. I would like to add a couple more.

Allow me to place bookmarks at significant locations within the chat. Then provide keyboard shortcuts to jump to the previous or next bookmark. It would be incredibly helpful if each bookmark could be assigned a short comment that would pop up when navigating to that location.

The addition of Projects is very helpful. I would have named them Folders rather than Projects, but that’s a minor detail. I would suggest supporting a hierarchy of projects. That would allow me to have just a few top level projects, such as Software. Then within that project I could have second level projects such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Python, etc.

My version of ChatGPT Plus used to have a down arrow that would take me to the bottom of the chat. That has now disappeared. But even worse, none of the navigation keys on my keyboard (Page Up, Page Down, Home, End, or the up/down arrows) work in any of the chats. These keys work everywhere else including all browser windows. This is a serious deficiency causing very frustrating navigation problems.
