ChatGPT Search Extension not working

So, I installed the ChatGPT Search Chrome extension but it’s not working. I am on 130.0.6723.91.

However installing it doesn’t set the default browser or allows me to manually set it. Heading to the search engine section of settings doesn’t show me chatgpt or anything similar. Also, weirdly, the extension is greyed out in the extensions section:

Unsure if that’s an issue. Does anyone understand if I am missing something to setup this up properly?

I do not have the search extension installed so can only point you to the OpenAI FAQ page for search

https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9237897-chatgpt-search

Near the bottom is this FAQ

Setting ChatGPT as your browser’s default search

HTH

Same problem here, tested on multiple chrome accounts, the extension seems to be broken.

Could be due to an (intended) Chrome update.

Using chromium-based Arc Browser: same result, completely broken

Looks like an unfair move from Google

Same here, not working and no contact to inform, don’t like to blame via bad rating.
Maybe it is not Google fault but OpenAI bad design not populated as official search engine.

Тоже и самое на хромиум все поломано

same in ubuntu chrome 131.0.6778.204

Looks like this is a restriction implemented by Google, not a fault by OpenAI.

The current version of the Add-On will log an error:

'chrome_settings_overrides' is not allowed for specified platform.

So it’s simply not allowed to replace the default search engine by the browser policies.

Here’s the Thorium ticket for this:
