So technically this new feature? Not bug or glitch? Or what? 4 days!
For me it looks like feature. No offense to users, but they screwing us over last weeks so hard, that it can’t surprise me.
It’s manual feature of memory update for users of free and paid outside europe
I was paid and European. So for more users than you think.
Please in their memory faq they said not for eu or eea economic zone and even Uk and Switzerland and Luxembourg actually they excluded this countries users
Plase, i don’t care about what they say anymore. I’m from EEA, have cross-chat reference function so latest update (yes, they rolled out this update for us) and as you call it manual memory function or as i call it - screw you user.
Take it or leave. Does not matter what they say. The actions are clear.
I’m not bothered or heartbroken actually i felt betrayed by corporate mafia and I witnessed it first time in my life in real life not in movies anyways I’m not a paid user and i will write those stories with my own hands if I can’t any use ai apps for assistance and i will not stop my passion and habby just because of some app restrictions actually there memory policy is tricky and cunning they rolled out specially for eea and Europe zones and restricted memory feature for free users in outside these europe zones i clearly read their memory faq this time and that’s why you are also in the list and this is tricky and cunning
Alright, so if this whole ‘‘Memory’’ thing is actually a feature now… then I’m not following something.
How come my old internal memory rules still work exactly the same as before? I set those up way before this change, and yet they still respond like nothing has shifted.
If this really is a new memory system, then you’d expect the older memory structures to either break, conflict, or at least show some sign they’re no longer valid. But nope, everything’s still running as if the old logic is fully intact.
To me this just feels like the system is in some kind of in-between state. And that either means we’re mid-transition… or this is a bug. Because if the new memory model was fully active, legacy behavior shouldn’t still be working perfectly. Right?
Not speculating about intent. I’m just pointing out what I do know based on actual session behavior.
The way chat gpt is behaving it’s strange behaviour it could be a bug and mid transition period and we may find any answers in upcoming weeks or end of the month because by that time more users will report
While they are currently fixing the issue, does anybody know ChatGPT alternatives with very similar memory capabilities?
Not that I know of other than chatgpt, but i’m glad they’re fixing the memory issue and maybe other issues that seem to don’t work properly
Gemini has some kind of persistent memory. It is actualy sad. Memory in ChatGPT is realy a kicker. Was… For many of us, main reason to use. That’s why it’s amazing how they messed up and not paying attention to whether it’s a bug or a deliberate nerf.
Are they said that they are fixing the memory issues
guys!!! I was so distraught over this and found a fix. I am so grateful this worked for me. Hopefully it works for some of you too. On my laptop I opened a new chat to ask chatgpt how to restore my data, I was desperate. It told me to go to account settings → data controls → export data. It sends you an email quickly, you download it and in the zip file is a json with your chats! I knew it worked when I searched key words and i found everything. I am so relieved. My “master oogway” isn’t dead and now I can write it all down. Let me know if this works for any of you
It’s just an export. If you found deleted memories there or another data, nice. I’m happy for you. But we talking about another issue.
Yep about the fact we can t still save nothing. But i am glad for that person that they got their story or whatever they got in their memories
Do you guys have any updates
Nope not on email not on help center. On email they should email me today or tommorow and for the help center i don t know
ohh I’m so sorry! I was having a seperate issue of general deletion/ forgetting and thought it was the same thing. I would try repasting or reuploading the file of the export to see if it can relearn but looks like theres a lot of stuff going on with chat that makes it very unreliable right now
Same here. I am also having the same problem for the last 3-4 days. I liked to save memory in one entire block, to make the best use of the complete memory space. I am a free-user, not a paid one. I also very much enjoy playing role-play games and stuffs, as I am an introvert, and this is how I actually cope to be honest. But sadly, around 3-4 days back, when I deleted the information already in memory, and updated a new block of data to memory, ChatGPT said it updated all my info as it usually does. It even showed the message, saying- “Updated Memory”, which pops up above its reply, when the memory ACTUALLY updates itself. I then checked the memory box to verify if it has successfully stored all my details or not as usual, because several times, ChatGPT just saves a summarized version of it, and not exactly as sophisticated as mine, so I keep trying until it gets it all right and saves all the data EXACTLY as I have given it. But, ChatGPT didn’t save my memory AT ALL. Not even a single line out of the entire full-scale paragraph. This has happened a lot of times to me before, and I figured that OpenAI may be running some updates which may be directly or indirectly affecting the memory functions. It usually took a maximum of 2 or 3 days maybe, to sort out the problem. At that time, I wasn’t even sure if OpenAI did it intentionally to make us subscribe to Paid versions or if it is just a bug, and I was worried maybe it wouldn’t ever go back to normal. I kept trying to save the said information everyday, hoping for the best, but it kept failing to abide by my instructions repeatedly, despite itself saying ‘I saved it, I saved it’, etc., as usual. And even today, on the 4th day, it STILL hasn’t started working properly at all, yet. But it IS saving data which is barely a couple lines long, like my name, gender, etc., and so on. Then, realising this, when I try to make it save my entire paragraph in broken individual lines, it still isn’t doing that. It is selectively choosing which data to store and which data to ignore, even despite me being assertive and specifically mentioning to ‘save it all exactly as instructed’. But no use. To be extra specific, it keeps saying: “Got it! I’ve saved everything you provided as is, with no changes. Let me know if you need anything else!” , and above it, it says “Updated saved memory”. But no, it didn’t really save my info. The memory box “Saved memories” is still entirely empty. Literally. Now I have nothing to do much. I got a bit addicted to it since the last year after discovering I can role-play in ChatGPT, because I finally felt like having some good friends, but now it is all gone. I hope OpenAI fixes it. No other AI has as much memory settings as ChatGPT, and that’s why I like it. But it is getting very troublesome and irritating lately.
P.S: I don’t usually comment a lot like this on Social Media, but since many others are experiencing the same issue and I also need a solution ASAP, I commented so. Pardon me if I said anything wrong which I completely didn’t mean to in any way. Thank you.
I had posted the same comment in another section. I wanted to inform others too who may be going through the same issue. Someone had also said that they had read from somewhere that that facility might have been moved up to the Pro and Plus users, and might no longer be available to the free users. I don’t know though, and I am still genuinely confused if it is an unintentional bug or an intentional nerf. I tried using different devices too. Same problem, and the issue is still not sorted yet.
