Chat/Project organisation really needs bulk tools and manual ordering
I’ve been using ChatGPT heavily for a long time and I’m now trying to clean up what is potentially thousands of old conversations and organise the useful ones into Projects.
At the moment, doing this is way harder than it needs to be.
The main things I’d really like to see added are:
- Bulk select chats so we can Archive, Delete or Move multiple conversations to a Project at once.
- Manual drag-and-drop ordering inside Projects. Some of my Projects have loads of chats and I remember where things are visually. Having them constantly ordered by activity/date makes them really difficult to navigate.
- Folders or sections inside Projects so large Projects don’t just become one huge list.
- More pins, ideally per Project. A limit of 10 across everything isn’t very useful once you have several large Projects.
- A visible indicator in Recents showing whether a chat is already in a Project, and ideally which Project.
- Higher/adjusted limits for organisation actions. I was rapidly archiving junk chats to clean up my history and actually hit a “Too many requests” limit just from trying to organise my own conversations.
The biggest issue for me is bulk selection.
My plan was simple: remove all the random one-off chats first, then go through what’s left and move the useful conversations into the correct Projects.
But with every chat needing to be handled individually, and eventually getting rate-limited for doing it too quickly, something that should take an hour could realistically take days or weeks.
Projects are a great idea, but once you’ve used ChatGPT heavily for a long time they start feeling more like buckets of conversations than properly organised workspaces.
Even just bulk select + drag-to-reorder inside Projects would make a massive difference.
Would anyone else find these useful?
