Feature Request: Bulk selection and moving chats to Projects
Problem
ChatGPT currently allows users to move individual conversations into a Project, but managing a large number of conversations is cumbersome because chats have to be moved one by one.
This becomes a significant usability issue for users who use Projects as their primary way of organizing and archiving conversations.
Proposed functionality
Add a bulk chat management mode that allows users to:
-
select multiple conversations using checkboxes or multi-select,
-
select all conversations matching the current view/search,
-
move all selected conversations to a chosen Project in one operation,
-
optionally archive or delete multiple selected conversations using the same mechanism.
Suggested UI
On desktop/PWA:
Select → choose multiple chats → Move to Project → select destination Project
Standard desktop selection methods could also be supported:
-
Ctrl + click— select individual conversations, -
Shift + click— select a range, -
Ctrl + A— select all conversations in the current filtered/search view.
On mobile:
Long press a conversation → selection mode → select additional conversations → Move to Project
Important: Search integration
Bulk selection should also work with Chat Search.
Example workflow:
-
Search for conversations containing “MikroTik”.
-
Select the relevant results.
-
Choose Move to Project.
-
Select the “MikroTik” or networking Project.
-
All selected conversations are moved at once.
This would make reorganizing an existing ChatGPT history dramatically faster.
Platforms
The functionality should be consistent across:
-
ChatGPT Web / PWA,
-
ChatGPT desktop applications,
-
ChatGPT mobile applications (Android/iOS).
Why this matters
Projects are increasingly useful for long-term organization of ChatGPT work, but users with hundreds or thousands of existing conversations face a substantial migration and organization problem.
Moving conversations one at a time does not scale.
Bulk selection combined with search and Move to Project would turn Projects into a much more practical knowledge-management and conversation-organization system.
