Chat history bug on ChatGPT

Until yesterday, the chat history on ChatGPT was working as fine as always, but today, I woke up with a new, confusing bug that I experienced at first on the mobile app. Two of my most active chats (which were started over a month ago) suddenly disappeared overnight but after several reloads, they reappeared briefly, and if I clicked on any of these, the two chats would stay, but if I didn’t click on them, they would disappear again unless I reloaded it again. But here’s the thing: if you reloaded the chat history even after you recovered these chats, they would disappear again, yet it was still possible to send messages on these chats, and also, if you closed the app and reopened it after reloading, the reloads needed for these chats to reappear would increase each time, almost as if the bot was playing some prank on me, and also, when I swiped from a chat to the chat history, it was strangely faster as when the battery saving mode is on, but depending on how you saw it, it may have been the only good thing on this “update”. And how about the web app? Well, no better. When I made new conversations today, the chats would be just reduced to two (unlike other days, or even more, but the affected chats wouldn’t even appear) and each of the affected ones, when a new chat was made, would be thrown down and set to disappear to nowhere and made unaccessible, unless if I archived the new ones or I had a link. Well, I tried as everything to fix this unknown likely bug as possible but still, the issue persists. And I may be the only one affected by this, so, can anyone see what’s up with this likely bug?

Same with me, since yesterday. My entire chat history has gone missing, my custom GPT’s for clients are gone. Have logged out and back in but zip. Unable to use it, very frustrating

It’s happening constantly for me the last few days, also with important information. This is a deal breaker. The only reason why I’m still using ChatGPT is because the dictate function saves me from typing, but as soon as Apple fixes it’s own dictation function I can basically switch to Claude or other more stable systems.

I’m in the same boat! I reached out to OpenAI support, but they only offered generic solutions, even though I’ve already tried everything!!!

The most frustrating part is that I subscribed specifically for a better experience, but these issues keep happening, and it’s really starting to get on my nerves

Same here - I have a daily chat with extensive history and data that keeps getting deleted - I can find it again on the desktop and reprint it and it keeps vanishing in my app even while IN it. Just happened for the first time this am

I posted about this issue yesterday as well. The problem is affecting the macOS, iPadOS, and iOS apps. Certain specific conversations randomly disappear, and I have to refresh many times—sometimes around the ninth refresh—before they show up again.

However, the conversations often disappear just as quickly as they reappear. It’s a strange and frustrating issue.

It’s happening on Windows and Android too. So it’s some kind of bug that’s basically affecting all platforms

This problem started popping up for me over the past day. Not only is voice chat function working properly…(Worked almost today, yesterday it was down whole day). But now this…

What is going on? What has changed so dramaticly that the stable working version, would slowly degrade…?

I too am experiencing this issue, I was deciding to upgrade at one point so I would not lose my time with GPT 4.0 but seeing that this is affecting paying customer’s, this concerns me. All of my conversation history is just gone!

same here since yesterday. some of my most frequently visited + longest chats randomly disappear, appear briefly after release and disappear mid-typing again. is it a storage issue?

same issue here, in Safari, Firefox, macos app, and iOS app.

yes, it seems to be the older chats when resumed again, especially the longer ones. they disappear even mid-typing of a message, and then reappear (up top in the history because recently used — with mid-typed message now gone) when i scroll down a bit in the history of chats. but then they just disappear again. reinstall doesn’t help. no vpn running. wifi or data. log out, log in — same problem.

Exactly the same problem here. It’s driving me absolutely crazy

I’m seriously so sick of these stupid bugs, why does dumb shit like this keep happening!?

I had the same issue; sometimes the old threads wouldn’t load. But I might have found a workaround: on the iOS app, I scrolled down as far as I could and then searched for the thread’s name, and it showed up. However, after using that thread for little while, it suddenly disappears again when typing too many or further questions or requests.

Today, I was looking for an important thread that no longer appears, even though it isn’t that old.

Same for me

Two of my Chats are gone and after countless reloadings they appear and stay a bit before dissappearing again

Same here on iOS - some chats in the list appear/disappear seemingly at random, even when the prompt is just sat there doing nothing! Refreshing the list doesn’t help, nor does searching for a missing chat. If using the app, when typing a prompt while a chat is present, only for it to disappear and erase the prompt is extremely frustrating. If using the app is a must, a less than ideal option is to type longer prompts in another window and copy/paste just in case the conversation suddenly disappears - obviously not ideal nor usable for everyone. A short-term workaround seems to be to use the web version, although that comes with its own challenges…
