Chat GPT Desktop App for Mac

I’m following the link and installed, but it said I need to upgrade my MacOS to 14.0 to use this app

Honestly, I am so disappointed and annoyed with OpenAI on this one. Such a little thing yet it demonstrates the lack of follow through on a promise.

They posted this on their website today, yet the day is over… Absolute failure and flat out lie from OpenAI today :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

If the intention was to roll out to a select group of users, then specify that. Otherwise all plus users is what is implied here.

Shame… Shame… Shame…

Open chatgpt, check your developer tab under network connections, you’ll see a bunch of interactions with oaistatic. The link is legit.

The link is legit - it is showing my history of all my chats in the sidebar.

How do you know it’s legit? Please don’t encourage others to click the link or download/install the app. Legit or not, it’s horrible practice to download from anything but an official link.

Stop promoting the link as legit. You don’t know this. Only apps from the official company domain should be used.

Apparently it doesn’t have any of the new features shown anyway so no reason to wait, just use the one on your phone.

I felt the same too but it. worked for me and I am using GPT on my desktop - albeit not what they demo’d today, but literally a mirror version of the iPhone app.

Also the link that was shared was by an “Official” - as per the tag on their post above their name.

How do you know those domains are legit? Please stop suggesting people should download software from anywhere other than the official domain when they app is officially launched.

You must be a prepper. Chillout. You’re not the internet police.

You can tell it’s legitimate because chatgpt uses it? Look at my screenshot dude. The domain is literally owned by openai.

The domains in the link are not the OpenAI domain - openai[.]com. These are all tactics used by threat actors. The domains below used in the links above are not openai[.]com:

oistatic[.]com
chatgpt[.]com

There is no reason to trust those or the post.

Regardless, illegitimate apps can refer to legitimate domains. I fully admit I may be wrong, but it’s irresponsible to use or share links outside a company posting on their main domain.

chat-openai-com → redirects to chatgpt-com
oaistatic-com → used by chatgpt-com for API requests

both are legit, and owned by OpenAI

Everyone, here is a screenshot of the ChatGPT website source code. The link is clearly listed in the source code of the official Chat portal. Just to be safe, I downloaded the app by copying and pasting the URL from the source code into my address bar rather than trusting the link in the comments. I noticed the link in the comments takes you to a TinyURL half of the time, the source code link is going to be cleaner.

@dyqsh668I believe my position as a moderator on this forum should lead you to trust the link I shared. This link is from an OpenAI-owned/controlled website. This domain is used for hosting static files, such as the assets used to load chatgpt.com. If you still have any concerns, please feel free to reply to this post so I can answer any more questions you may have.

Will OpenAI update it to provide support for older MacOS versions?

I can’t imagine they’d prioritize it. It’s expensive to support legacy Operating Systems and I’d venture most of their core users are using M1 or more recent hardware.
