I am writing to express my growing frustration with the painfully slow response times I have been experiencing when using ChatGPT. As a user who relies on ChatGPT for various tasks, these slow response times are significantly impacting my productivity and overall experience.

I had this issue after using the same chat for a while, I created a new chat and the lag was gone.
I have a feeling it’s lagging because it’s having to display my entire chat log, which is stupid because it’s such an easy thing to optimise.
This solution isn’t directly related to the original topic but it seems a lot of people are coming here about similar things.
What’s even stupider is that unloading old messages used to be part of the site. Either it broke or was removed.

Even chatGPT 3.5 is super laggy
the reason is the single chat topic is loading the entire chat log in one page and it’s consuming more and more memory
I had the same issue. I switched from Chrome to Edge (I never use the latter) and its fast again. I read and tried all of the prior comments, nothing else helped.
It is certainly getting very slow, especially in the long threads. But with a superfast broadband and a supercomputer at the other end this should not be the case. I have tried switching to Edge but it is still slow.

Been dealing with the same slow ChatGPT issue for more than a week now – it’s driving me nuts! Everyone’s talking about AI taking over human jobs, but seriously, we can’t even get this right. There’s definitely a long way to go

Same problem here, its so bad it slows you down compared to do tasks manually!
Same for me, and additionaly my chrome browser is very slow now, all the gpt pages are taking too memory to load
it has become almost comically slow in the past few weeks and here I am, addicted, because clearly, I make excellent life choices.

I’ve said these exact words for months, and yet I still keep paying for it, hoping it resolves, knowing that transitions can be messy and take time. But I’ve been feeling like there are some icky ethical issues as a business here. It’s practically unusable.
It’s been really slow for me for more than 2 weeks now. The new chats work okay but whenever i try to pull up a previous conversation, it becomes unresponsive. I can’t believe, there’s no fix on it yet or an update from their side. This makes me question why pay for GPT 4 when it’s not even loading.

I can’t understand why gpt-team created such stupid UI as infinity chat.
I’m using it each day. So I have to create new and new chat each week because it becames increadible slow. My tab in browser just dead when I’m trying to use it.

this is complete bullshit! i understand updates and patches always possible, but this has been going on for too long to keep being an issue no one in their right mind on the board or the company has bothered to consider addressing and keep sweeping under the rug! why introduce all these stupid new plug ins image creators and surf applications when at the end of the day they’re not going to work and you’re only making the (ONLY EVER REALLY RELEVANT!) features completely unusable! lagging, glitches, network errors, lack of memory, inability to follow simple requests, instructions and decreasing IQ! you people have way too much money in your pockets to not be able to keep track of these changes data level entry college freshmen could come up with better solutions for! its embarrassing, you’re sitting on too much cash to have no excuse getting away with this!

I don’t understand how is this issue still not fixed. There seems to be no update as well. It’s so easy to work within a chat when it’s been pre-prompted but now I have to do the same thing by repeating the prompt and instructions in a new chat again and again. SO ANNOYING.

why is it soo slow when it is supposed to be super powerful and fast?! i wish they do something about this

It’s becoming incredibly annoying, I’m only a few days into paying for it after being on the waiting list for a while and I’m already thinking of canceling my subscription. Also, why are we paying $20 a month but we are limited to 40 questions every 3 hours (averaging to 13 questions an hour, or one every 5ish minutes, that’s insane) when 3.5 didn’t have these limitations at all and is so much faster. We are literally paying for a worse (performance) version of a free product.

You sound just like me, I have been yelling the same thing at my Macbook Pro screen all night because ChatGPT can’t get sh*t right. Super slow, laggy, forgetting things even though I have it in the knowledge instructions and attached to the thread. Every time I tell it not to do something, it does it over and over again anyway. And like you said, why do we have a limit every 3 hours still. First it was 50, then was downgraded to 40 out of nowhere, and OpenAI didn’t even warn us.
Also, it was giving us 4 photos with DALLE 3 when it first came out, just like MidJourney, then it was downgraded to only 2 images. Now it’s only one, and the one image it gives is never right. If they don’t get the crap together, not only will Microsoft stock crash, AGAIN, but some company like Anthropic just might take the number one spot. They could at least tell us what the bloody stinking hell is going on instead of ignoring these issues.

I have been having issues as well for a little less than a week. It’s acting like they did surgery on it and they didn’t provide enough oxygen for it through the surgery. I am having it do some calculations and then create a graph. However, although it will not have any problem making the complicated calculations, almost every time it will crash when creating the graph. Then it will automatically try and recreate the graph. Sometimes it’ll crash and sometimes it will not. Sometimes it has to try it two or three times before it gets it right. The graph is always correct. I thought it was something that I was doing wrong, now I know after reading these posts that they’re ongoing issues.

I just wanted to add my voice of disappointment with GPT 4.
It is insanely frustrating to work with, slow, and bugs out over and over and over again. It keeps tell me that the conversation is no longer there… that the conversation is too long… that there is a network error… that it can no longer read the files I uploaded (that it just barely read)… and on and on.
And, yes, it appears the plug-in version is slightly better…
Crazy that we are all paying for a slower, buggier, worse service.
Also crazy is that there is no way to communicate to OpenAI or get support. So sad. I hope they fix all of this.
