Most companies within the EU require that their data is processed only within the EU — especially in the public sector. This is therefore absolutely crucial for us to even be allowed to use OpenAI.
OpenAI has “Data Residency Controls,” which they promote as the go-to solution to this problem. In their documentation, it seems like something easy to use — something that should be no problem to activate.
However, it seems completely impossible to gain access to it. This is a huge issue when it’s such a critical service for the entire EU market.
It says that you need to contact their sales team so they can activate “Data Residency Controls.” I’ve now contacted them twice and described the problem and our needs in different ways. But both times, after a day, I’ve received the same automatic reply from a no-reply address, responding to something completely different. The response I get is:
“Thanks for your interest in our API platform. Based on your submission, we think you’ll benefit most from the self-serve resources we offer.”
and then instructions on how to set up a developer account.
I already have an account — we’ve used the API for several years and are on usage Tier 5.
Please help me! This is a deal breaker for us and many others, so it feels incredibly frustrating to get that automatically generated response, when this is a service they promote as something that solves our problem.
