Why cant we change the theme to dark in the playground, most my screens are black its hurts to just get blasted with a white screen after looking in an ide for hours.

You can get third party dark mode extensions for browsers, but I wholeheartedly approve of your dark mode suggestion.

Putting in my vote for this feature. The glaring white is hard for me to look at.
