I created a custom GPT and uploaded files under knowledge. The GPT answers questions based on the file contents and often includes hyperlinks to the reference files I uploaded. But the links are broken and display a “The file was not found” message when clicked.
I tried instructing GPT not to show the broken links, and it seems to work on the web version. However, in the ChatGPT App (macOS or mobile), it still shows the broken links.
This can happen if you don’t tell GPT not to include links or references to the file in its instructions or your prompt.
When you upload a file to GPT, it uses the file and cites it, similar to how it searches the web. But since the file isn’t a webpage, the links won’t work.
To fix this, you can add this instruction to GPT or use it as your prompt when starting a chat:
When summarizing or citing knowledge file content, do not include hyperlinks or direct references to file paths. Only provide the relevant information.
