Billing exceeded and error: You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details

My billing shows negative, I received no warnings, have plenty of credit. Now get “You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.” via the api - topped up extra funds over an hour ago and still won’t clear the error and billing still shows negative. This feels like something that should have gone away when I topped up the balance. Have tried a lot of things but still same issue. Any ideas? App is useless in production right now.

The relevant OpenAI Help Center article says usage-limit errors can be related to the monthly budget/usage limits:

So I’d check these first, if you already haven’t:

Also make sure the API key belongs to the same project/organization where the funds were added. If the balance/top-up still has not propagated and production is blocked, Support may need to check the billing/quota state directly. You can contact them through Help.

Thanks. Have tried all this, have gone to support also and it has been escalated as may be an issue on the backend in openai

Welcome to the community @Strickles2000 and thanks for the update. Also appreciate @LarisaHaster sharing the billing/settings checks earlier.

Since you’ve already verified the limits/org setup and Support escalated it as a possible backend billing issue, this probably isn’t something you can fix client-side at this point. The negative balance + quota lock state seems to occasionally get “stuck” even after funds are added.

If you have a case ID, feel free to share it here and I can help monitor for updates/escalation movement.
