openai API Unathorised usage. Beware devs.

Warning - there’s some open ai API vunerability eating my credit - my REAL money. I havent been able to narrow it down.

Despite locking down my account
Deleteing old API key
Adding IP verification
Setting project budget to 0.01
Blocking all model usage

Something - is still using my credit

I’ve attempted to contact @OpenAI_Support but it never gets past bot level.

I’ve had to contact card issuer to claim funds back via dispute (which they did)

Now the problem is back again….

It could be openai storage pricing that is being charged? Do you have any files in your organization? Check out pricing for it.

I cant seem to find storage pricing for fine-tuned jobs or training data. But says that it is:

“File search storage $0.10 / GB per day (1GB free)”

Great point! The usage page in the platform site will report your current storage size.

It will take deliberate disconnection of files from a vector store by API command or deletion of the vector store to stop the billing for data placed in them, due to vectors and text extracted from files remaining after files are deleted from storage.

  • Uploaded and created files in storage are at no cost, up to 1TB max. Batch job data expires after 30 days.
  • Fine tuning is essentially an unlimited model count, after your up-front costs, with any training file uploads or output reports remaining until deleted.

Thanks - none of the above - its just me and no storage

  • old API keys put in separate ‘old project’ - deleted actual keys
  • New project created - with new key < no problem in new project
  • no vector storage
  • no other users (2FA now enabled)
