I’m reporting an intermittent Android text-selection bug in ChatGPT.
When I long-press and select only part of an assistant response, the Android selection menu sometimes shows only “Select all” and the “Copy” option is missing.
This is specifically a partial text-selection problem. ChatGPT’s built-in Copy action is not an equivalent workaround because that copies the entire assistant response.
I was able to test the bug while it was actively occurring.
I left ChatGPT running and did not force-close or restart it. I changed the default keyboard from Samsung Keyboard to FUTO Keyboard through Android Settings, then returned to the same open ChatGPT conversation.
Result: the bug remained. Partial text selection still showed only “Select all”; “Copy” was still missing even with FUTO active.
Without restarting ChatGPT, I then minimized and returned to the app again and tested a second time. Copy finally appeared.
This indicates that switching from Samsung Keyboard to FUTO did not itself resolve the issue. The behavior may instead be related to ChatGPT’s message view/text-selection action mode being refreshed when the app loses and regains focus or resumes.

Android partial-text-selection bug — controlled regular-chat follow-up
I completed the regular-chat test requested by Support on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Switching to FUTO while the bug was active did not immediately resolve it.
Regular-chat results 24 partial-selection tests total:
20/24 showed Copy normally.
4/24 reproduced the bug: only “Select all” appeared and Copy was missing.
Overall failure rate in this controlled run: 4 ÷ 24 = 16.7%.
Near newest messages: 16/17 successful, 1 failure (5.9% failure).
Far back in older messages: 4/7 successful, 3 failures (42.9% failure).
The first failure appeared around the 30-total-message point while testing older content. The bug later also occurred near the newest messages.
Most importantly, it can change without scrolling or changing messages. On the same older message and same scroll position, results went:
Test 14: Copy missing → Test 15: Copy present → Test 16: Copy missing → Test 17: Copy missing.
Near the newest messages, Test 19 showed only “Select all,” and Test 20 immediately showed Copy again without scrolling away.
Test 24 was performed after the conversation had passed 50 total messages and, after scrolling far back again, Copy appeared normally.
This confirms that the issue is intermittent. Scrolling far back appears associated with more failures in this particular test sample, but scrolling is not required for the bug to appear or disappear.
