Agent mode menu disappeared after recent performance issues (Plus plan)

Hi,

I’m a ChatGPT Plus subscriber. Since the recent slowdown/server issues

began, the Agent mode option has completely disappeared from my tools

menu across all my chats.

What’s strange is that if I copy and paste the Agent mode tag/element

that briefly appeared once, it temporarily re-enables Agent mode in

every chat — but it disappears again after a page refresh.

This suggests the feature is being toggled off server-side without

any notice, rather than a simple client-side bug.

Could this possibly be an issue on my end? I’ve tried clearing

cache, switching sessions, and even using incognito mode, but

I’m seeing the same result every time.

Alongside this, I’m also experiencing:

- Even simple reviews and data organization tasks with the advanced

model now take 2+ minutes to respond (previously ~1 minute), and

the mid-tier model has also become noticeably and significantly

slower than before

- Responses frequently cutting off or freezing mid-stream

- The chat interface itself feeling sluggish

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there an official explanation

for why Agent mode was removed without notice for paying users?

If anyone has figured out a fix or knows what’s causing this,

I’d really appreciate it if you could share in the comments.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Community, @Bradleycooper, and thanks for sharing the detailed report.

From what you've described, this doesn't sound like a local issue. The Agent mode availability is currently being investigated, although we don't have a timeline to share yet.

For now, the workaround is to invoke it with @agent in your prompt. If you're using the ChatGPT app, also make sure it's up to date. If it is and you're still seeing the same behavior, try reinstalling the app.

We've also shared the feedback about the advanced model feeling slower, along with the freezing and cut off responses, with the team.

If anyone else is seeing the same behavior, feel free to add your experience here.

Based on the browser’s horizontal size.

I confirmed that the issue was caused by the different menu screens depending on the browser’s landscape size.

I also reported it on the official website.

Is it still working for you? What do you need to do with the horizontal size? I’ve tried narrow and long widths but /agent and @agent aren’t doing anything. I’m on Pro.

I am having the same issue, cannot access agent mode.

Sharing how I fixed this, in case it helps others.

If “Agent Mode” isn’t showing up for you, it’s likely a responsive layout bug — not an account issue or rollout delay.

How I solved it: Simply narrow your browser window width so the chat window becomes narrow, then check the “+” menu. Once the layout switches to its compact/narrow view, Agent Mode shows up right away. It seems the full-width menu is simply missing the Agent Mode entry that the compact layout includes.

Note: it still doesn’t show up in the sidebar — check the “+” menu in the chat composer instead, that’s where it appears.

I confirmed this has nothing to do with cache (tested with cache disabled and after clearing site data). It’s purely tied to window width. I’ve already filed a bug report to OpenAI with repro steps, but this workaround works fine in the meantime.

Hi folks, thanks for reporting this.

Please email support@openai.com with a screenshot of what happens when you try to invoke @a or @agent, what appears after clicking the + button, and your account or workspace context.

Once you receive a case ID, share it here so the team can reference it during the investigation.

Thanks for sharing the detailed workaround, @Bradleycooper. That’s a really useful find, especially the distinction between the full-width and compact “+” menus.

The window-width workaround should help others access Agent Mode while the layout issue is being investigated. Appreciate you also filing a bug report with clear repro steps.

I don’t see an agent option either

I getting the same issue with my app! @agent is missing.

I have the same problem. Agent mode disappeared on iOS App for all chats and new ones, as well as on web version. Ticket 11277900.

Rick

8 people have reported it! Is that enough to at least test it yourself?

I’m experiencing the same issue. Agent Mode has been missing from all of my devices—including Android, iOS/iPadOS, and the web interface—for more than one month, and it is unavailable in all new chats.

Support case number: 11285666

Mines gone too, one day ago i was still able to access it using @agent (despite help telling me to use /agent which doesn’t work) but today neither would bring up agent mode.

Could it be that agent mode is built into Work mode now? Asking chatgpt says otherwise though… i really hope this is not due to outdated documentations…

It is extra frustrating to be hit with the “are you on paid plan? have you reinstalled the app? have you tried incognito mode?”

Hi everyone,

I’m a Plus subscriber, and the “Agent Mode” toggle has completely disappeared from my interface on both the web browser and the mobile app.

Yep noticed today mine is missing too and the support is just an AI bot that tells you to do what ChatGPT itself can tell you to do. Not happy as paying for something you can’t use and @agent doesn’t even work as a workaround it’s gone from my iPhone iPad and Mac

Hello everyone,
i am also facing same issue, if anyone have the solution
please post it here

Same here, plus user, agent mode is removed from web and app…

Agent mode is completely missing for me. @agent /agent both do absolutely nothing. Shrinking the browser does nothing. Installing the desktop app did not work. The mobile app does not have it. When this month is over I am switching to a model that has a working agent mode. This is so dissapointing.
