June 10 model picker rollout issue: Thinking / Pro unavailable on Web but available on mobile

Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone else is seeing this behavior on ChatGPT Web.

I’m on a ChatGPT Pro 5x subscription using Chatgpt web in Chrome on Windows 11, in my Personal workspace.

On the mobile app, I can access the Intelligence options normally, including Thinking, Pro, and the reasoning-effort controls. So my account and subscription appear to still have the correct model access.

However, on ChatGPT Web, the main model picker behaves differently.

In the Web model picker, I can see model versions such as:

  • GPT-5.5
  • GPT-5.4
  • GPT-5.3
  • GPT-5.2
  • GPT-4.5
  • o3

But when selecting GPT-5.5 or GPT-5.4, I do not see any Intelligence, Configure, Thinking, Pro, or reasoning-effort options. The only Intelligence option I can find is “Instant” under GPT-5.3.

There is another inconsistency: inside an existing conversation on Web, the “Try again” menu still shows “Use Thinking” while the current response is labeled “5.5 Instant.” That suggests Thinking is still available in some context, but the main Web model picker is not exposing the correct controls.

I have already tested:

  • chatgpt dot com
  • Chrome incognito
  • extensions disabled
  • no VPN/proxy
  • Personal workspace
  • active ChatGPT Pro 5x subscription
  • no banner or warning about model access being limited, unusual activity, security, or maintenance

This seems specific to ChatGPT Web, since mobile works normally.

Support has escalated my case, but I’m trying to understand whether this is account-specific or part of a model picker rollout / feature flag issue.

Is anyone else seeing the same behavior specifically on Web while mobile still works normally?

Welcome to the community @db731393!

OpenAI has updated model picker since yesterday, June 10.

We’re updating the model picker to make it easier to choose the balance of speed and reasoning effort that works best for your task.

You can read more about it from ChatGPT.

This is how it looks like when using the app in iOS.

You can also choose in general settings automatic intelligence switching for complex questions.

Since you have Pro-account, you’re also able to adjust “Pro-level”, it’s shown right under “Auto-switch”. You can also read more about it in that linked article.

Hi @LarisaHaster,

Thank you for your reply!

Yes, I noticed that there was an update on June 10. It seems that after this update, the ChatGPT browser version/web page on my personal computer can no longer select Thinking, Pro, or their respective reasoning intensity levels for models such as GPT-5.5, GPT-5.4, and others.

My mobile app looks exactly like the one you showed and still allows me to choose the reasoning intensity. However, on the browser version running on my PC, I only see model options such as GPT-5.5, GPT-5.4, and GPT-5.3. There is no longer an option to configure the reasoning intensity as before, nor do I see the simplified reasoning controls described in the release notes.

This is why I’m wondering whether something may have gone wrong with my account or with the rollout of the update on the web version.

Thank you again for your reply.

I suspect this may be an issue specific to my account. OpenAI Support just sent me another update via email, so I’ll wait and see whether they’re able to resolve the problem soon.

Thanks for clarifying and also sorry, I read your first post too fast!

What I just did on the web on my desktop, was log out and log back in, to see the intelligence picker. That worked for me at least.

Looks like this:

If log out and log back in doesn’t help, then yes, it sounds like an account specific and in that case good that the support is already looking into it.

So to sum up, I at least can select intelligence.

Thanks for flagging this, @db731393.

Also appreciate the suggestions from @LarisaHaster. A few users have been able to get the Model Intelligence picker to appear again by logging out and back in, or by clearing their browser cache and refreshing the web app.

If you're still not seeing the picker after trying those steps, feel free to share your case ID here. That gives the team something to track so they can monitor the issue and help troubleshoot further.

Hi Mark @OpenAI_Support ,

Thanks for the reply.

I have already tried the suggested troubleshooting steps, but the issue still persists.

Here is what I tested:

  1. I tried logging in on Chrome, Safari, and Edge using private/incognito/InPrivate mode, after clearing cookies and cache. The Model Intelligence picker / Configure options still do not appear on ChatGPT Web.

  2. I also tried logging in to my own account on a friend’s computer, on a different Wi-Fi network. The issue still persists there as well.

  3. I reset my account password and enabled MFA/2FA as an additional security step. After signing back in, the Model Intelligence picker / Configure options still do not appear on ChatGPT Web.

My Case Number is: 09918718. Following the instructions from OpenAI Support, I recorded a screen recording reproducing the issue and sent it to them. I have not received a follow-up response yet.

Thanks again for looking into this.

Please see the attached screenshots. I have also described the issue below.

Issue:
The ChatGPT web model picker does not show the Intelligence options, such as Instant, Medium, and High. I can only see GPT-5.5 and model versions such as 5.5, 5.4, 5.3, 5.2, and o3.

Expected:
The model picker should allow me to switch the Intelligence level between Instant, Medium, and High.

Actual:
The Intelligence options are missing or inaccessible, so I cannot adjust the intelligence level.

Troubleshooting already tried:

  • Cleared cookies and site data for chatgpt.com, openai.com, and auth.openai.com.
  • Cleared browser cache.
  • Logged out and logged back in.
  • Restarted Google Chrome.
  • Tried incognito mode.
  • Disabled browser extensions.
  • Refreshed the page multiple times.

Screenshots:

  • Screenshot 1: Affected UI — Intelligence options are missing.
  • Screenshot 2: Expected UI — Intelligence options are visible.

Thanks for the update @db731393. Since you've already gone through the basic troubleshooting and the issue is still happening, could you check for "Models" tab under permissions & roles, if nothing, capture a HAR file while switching models and attach it to the case? That will help us check what's happening behind the scenes before escalating if needed.

Also, @kline, please create a support ticket at support@openai.com and include:

  • The troubleshooting steps you've already tried (as outlined here)
  • A HAR file captured while switching models
  • A screen recording of the behavior, if available

Those details will give the support team enough information to investigate further.

I received a similar response for a similar UI issue before. I was so excited to submit the ticket and HAR files back then, but no useful fix ever came out of it. I’m guessing it’ll be the same story this time. What can we do?

Are you guys even working on this? Do I need to list every single HAR file I’ve submitted in the past? I have to say, it’s been next to useless.

I have the same UI issue.

My Case Number: 09970210. This is not an issue affecting only my account.

We are experiencing the exact same issue. Our situations are completely identical, and I honestly feel almost hopeless at this point.

I have the same UI issue as well. I also tried logging out and back in, clearing my browser cache and refreshing the web app. Nothing helps.

The Intelligence selector has been gone from the web UI for more than 1 day—same as everyone here—and we still have zero acknowledgment and zero fix. This is not an issue affecting only my account. The silence makes it feel like they just don’t care.

I’m on a Pro 5x plan and all I can ues on web is instant models is absurd. This is really unacceptable and it’s been going on for almost two days now. Please fix this.

i am facing the same issue. I have deleting cache, logged out and logged, added MFA and still issue isn’t resolved. This is day 2 of the problem

For me, the Intelligence selector returned to normal after my usage limit refreshed. I can now see and select the options again.
However, this still looks like a bug, because previously when my Pro usage reached the limit, I could still select Thinking. Recently, I could not even select Thinking.

what do you mean? Can you tell more about this?

I noticed the same issue, the Effort Selector disappeared after my pro usage hit the limit. However this is 100% a bug, because on my phone I can select it. It was never like this. Even when I was hitting my pro usage I could still use the “Heavy” thinking more.

Now I’m spending $100 a month and I have to use the instant when pro limit is reached? No thank you. It has been already two days, nothing from the support, no acknowledgment of the issue, nothing at all.

They are living in la la land.
