Hi Everyone,
We have a legal / privacy question, we are developing a MCP App that relates to beauty. The App Submission Guide state that any app submitted need to be suitable for 13+ as ChatGPT is not doing age control yet. This is fine for us, however even if our content is safe for 13+ our corporate policy states that we can not offer beauty related service to minors.
So is it possible to have the app submitted but further restrict the usage by a consent at the beginning of the app for people to acknowledge they are 18+ in age (at a very least 16+)?
Thanks for your help!
Hi @EdgarM, that's a good question, and I can see why this is coming up if your company's policy is stricter than the platform's current age expectations.
As things stand, the app submission guidance is about what's allowed to be listed in ChatGPT, but that doesn't necessarily prevent your app from applying additional requirements of its own. If your business policy only allows service for users above a certain age, an age confirmation or consent screen at the start of the experience seems like a reasonable way to communicate that requirement.
You can also use your app's description to clearly state that the service is intended for users 18+ (or 16+, depending on your policy), so users know about the restriction before launching the app.
That said, it's worth keeping in mind that a simple "I confirm I'm 18+" prompt is generally just a self-attestation, not age verification. If your legal or compliance requirements depend on reliably establishing a user's age, you may need additional controls outside of ChatGPT.
We'll also take this back to the team as feedback, since it's helpful to understand where developers need more flexibility around age restrictions and disclosures.
If anyone has already gone through app review with a similar setup, it'd be great to hear how it was handled.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the detailed answer. I agree with you consent is not a proper way of validating user’s age but this is what our legal team came for as a solution
We are mindful that our services should not be used by minor people as Beauty product should not be recommended to minors but from a pure content perspective this is safe for people of any age.
Thanks for the extra context, @EdgarM. That makes sense, and it sounds like the concern is driven by your company's internal compliance requirements rather than the content itself.
A consent or self-attestation flow seems like a practical way to reflect that policy, even if it isn't a true age verification mechanism. It's helpful to hear how teams are thinking through these cases while ChatGPT doesn't yet have built-in age controls.
We're definitely interested in this feedback and are looking forward to future improvements that give developers more flexibility around handling age-related requirements in a way that aligns with their own policies.
Appreciate you raising this.
