Add a clear Codex usage meter for 5-hour and weekly limits

would like Codex to show remaining usage more clearly, not only the reset time.

At the moment, users can see when a usage window resets, but it is difficult to understand how much of the current allowance remains. This matters because Codex usage can vary significantly depending on the type of task.

For example, light back-and-forth discussion, planning, and specification work may consume usage slowly, while large code reviews, refactoring, file analysis, or implementation work can consume much more in a short period of time.

Because of this, it is difficult to decide whether to continue with light planning or save the remaining capacity for a heavier coding task.

A simple visual usage meter would help a lot.

For example:

  • 5-hour limit: 63% remaining
  • Weekly limit: 78% remaining
  • Next reset time
  • Optional progress bar
  • Optional recent usage rate, such as “8% used in the last 30 minutes”

The percentage does not need to be perfectly exact. Even an approximate remaining percentage or progress bar would be much more useful than showing only the reset time.

It would also be helpful if the usage meter were visible directly in the Codex app or desktop navigation area, so users would not need to open a separate usage page repeatedly.

This would make it much easier to plan work, especially when switching between lightweight discussion and heavy coding tasks.

Hi! If you run /usage in the Codex TUI or if you check Settings → Usage in the desktop app, it will tell you the exact % of both weekly and 5-hour limit.

Do you mean you’d like this more visible at all times, like in the status bar? Kind of like an always-visible progress bar?

Just run Codexometer in a different window  (either TUI mode or in a web browser)
