I am sharing my experience with an account deactivation process and would like to understand whether others have encountered similar situations.
My account was deactivated without prior notice or a clear explanation. I submitted an appeal, which resulted in a standard response stating that:
the case had been reviewed
the deactivation decision was upheld
no further appeals would be considered
Following this, I contacted support multiple times to request clarification.
The consistent outcome across all responses was:
the Trust & Safety decision is final
no specific details about the reason for deactivation can be provided
escalation to a specialist did not change the result
there was no indication of:
account compromise
missing identity or age verification
no concrete violation was specified
The final recommendation was to create a new account using a different email address.
Observations
Based on publicly visible discussions (e.g. on X/Twitter), there appear to be cases where users reported very similar situations (sudden deactivation, appeal rejected with limited explanation).
At the same time, some of these cases — particularly involving high-visibility individuals — appear to have resulted in account restoration after additional attention.
From an external perspective, this raises questions about consistency in handling comparable cases and whether different levels of visibility may influence outcomes.
So what now?
Just because regular users dont have many followers they are forced to create a new account?
Was your account deactivated on June 5, or on another day?
I’m asking because there was a bug last week that affected many users. Either way, you should appeal the ban and/or create a ticket with support.openai.com.
cool. just confirmed that OpenAI is randomly banning accounts without any reason .
I still had one month left on my ChatGPT Plus subscription. Just because I am not famous, I am not getting my account reinstated, whereas famous people who experience the exact same issue get their accounts reinstated simply because of their status.
This is the perfect two-class society experiment. OpenAI is really doing a great job with this behavior. “Open” Ai only applies when you have a big audience. NOice!
I understand your concerns regarding the account deactivation process.
If you've previously created a support ticket regarding this issue, could you please share the ticket number here? I'll take a closer look at the account and review the case further.
