Hi everyone,
I purchased $320 in API credits about a year ago and last month I had around $160 left. I recently tried to use my remaining balance and discovered that all my credits had expired — with zero warning.
I never received any email reminder, dashboard alert, or notification of any kind before the expiration. I only found out when my API calls started failing. Had I been notified even a week in advance, I would have made sure to use the remaining balance or at least been prepared.
I’ve since learned from this forum that many others have experienced the exact same issue. It seems like a widespread problem that OpenAI has yet to properly address.
A few points I’d like to raise:
- These were paid credits, not free trial credits. I spent real money expecting to use them at my own pace.
- No expiration warning was ever sent. This feels like a serious oversight in customer communication.
- The expiration policy is buried deep in the terms and is not made clear during the purchase process.
I’ve already submitted a support ticket, but based on what I’ve read here, the standard response seems to be “we can’t help because it’s past 30 days.” That feels unacceptable for paid credits.
Has anyone recently had success getting their credits restored or refunded? Any advice on how to escalate this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
