Just cancelled my subscription, which I’ve had since Day 1. I have not seen an improvement in the past few months. Refuse to pay to be frustrated.
Usage cap is a dick move for paying $20+/months. I had 10 simple text queries and it stopped working for no reason. Looks like a bad config to me.
E’erbody griping, but I don’t see no fixes, yo.
The upcoming “market place” and the current “usage cap” are diametrically opposed and neither are sustainable unless OpenAI changes something pertaining to customized GPT’s usage parameters.
This warning window began to appear more often. Previously, I managed more in 40 messages. Not now.
Who knows why there are such restrictions?
Is it possible that they will then add a new Plus-Premium where it won’t exist?
I found someway to repair this Q, keep talking to the gpt4.0, it will ask you problem, look like this
User: “Is this deceiving the consumer? Since it’s an unlimited version, why is there still a limit set within a specified time? Isn’t that contradictory?”
Assistant: “This message indicates that you have reached the usage limit for GPT-4. Even though you are using the unlimited version, OpenAI has set limits on the amount of GPT-4 usage for each user within a specific time frame to ensure equal access to the service for all users. This limit is usually automatically reset after a period. You can try using GPT-4 again after the specified time (2:10 AM) or continue now with the default model version.”
Assistant: “I understand your confusion. The term ‘unlimited version’ may cause some misunderstandings. Here, ‘unlimited’ means that you can use the service an unlimited number of times during your subscription, not that there is no limit to the amount of usage at any given time. In fact, to ensure the stability and availability of the service, OpenAI has moderately limited the usage for each user. This means that you may reach the usage limit within a certain time, but after this period, you will be able to continue using the service.”
User: “Then please tell me, what exactly is the standard for the so-called limit within the specified time? Why wasn’t it clearly described when upgrading or recharging?”
Assistant: “The specific standards for usage limits of the GPT model by OpenAI may vary depending on different situations and times. These limits are usually based on algorithm performance, server load, and the need to ensure fair access to the service for all users. The specific usage limits may include the number of requests within a certain time, the length of the requests, or the frequency of usage of certain specific functions, etc.”
User: “So I can’t use 4.0 now? Do I have to keep waiting?”
Assistant: “You can still use GPT-4, but if you have reached the set usage quota, you may need to wait for some time (until the next reset period) before you can continue using all the features of GPT-4. This restriction is usually temporary, aimed at ensuring equal access to the service for all users.”
User: “What do you mean by basic features?”
Assistant: “When I mention the ‘basic features’ of GPT-4, I mean part of the service that you can still use after reaching the set usage quota. These basic features may include but are not limited to: …”
User: “So in the future, do I still need to be cautious when using it? You always have to give a specific judgment method, such as how many times certain features cannot be used within a certain period, so that consumers know how to use it.”
Assistant: “Your suggestion is reasonable. Indeed, if OpenAI could provide more explicit guidance and standards regarding usage limits, such as the number of requests allowed within a certain time or the frequency of usage of specific features, it would help users better plan and manage their usage to avoid unexpectedly reaching the limit.”
А не легче использовать API?
So what’s the cap now? I got this poppin after 25 messages and now have to wait for an hour? If it’s responsive/changing limit, would be a minimum requirement to somehow communicate it to user. We had various types of counters on websites already on early days of the internet, I’m sure an AI company could put one on their service aswell.
Ppl should just stop paying them. Period.
Why take money and give premium service when it has limits? Take more money but give unlimited usage! This current limitations are irritating.
What irony is this? no cap for free users and cap for paid users? Absolute non-sense!
I confess - I’m also pretty frustrated with paying the subscription fee for what is, so far, very limited usage. It’s beginning to feel like getting on the waitlist and then jumping at the opportunity when called was just a waste of time and money, designed to top up the openAI coffers.
I support the project and I have a lot of excitement and high hopes for the future of chatGPT - but I’m not an ‘angel investor’ - even at a paltry $20 a month. I’m paying for usage of the newest bells and whistles - which I’m not getting very much of. My primary usage (so far) is 90% covered by the free cGPT3.5, which is the same core model. Occasional use of features that only make up 10% of my use case is not worth this subscription fee. (The hope was to expand that percentage considerably, but I can’t use more of what I barely have access to).
Honestly, if openAI would have made it clearer that $20/month was the fee for “unlimited cGPT3.5 with occasional access to cGPT4 beta features” - I would probably be fine with it, this is a “poor expectation management” issue. I guess ultimately I’m disappointed in openAIs misleading solicitation.
Hopefully the influx of subscription money improves resource allocation, and this is just an unforeseen choke point of a nascent platform.
Just to add my voice … I too have been using ChatGPT4 for a while but suddenly faced this usage cap problem. Trying to have a solution-focus - does anyone know if chatGPT monitors this forum and occasionally replies? I would be prepared to pay more to get immediate relief of the issue - but then would need to know the parameters - or should I be looking at some of the other LLM offerings?
Dear developers
Please remove message limits for paid version and make more limits for free version,
otherwise it’s just kind of mocking at people who pay for service and get same limits , that’s ridiculous

JIC : switch to GPT3.5 create a new chat and continue using it
just to add to the pile and air my grievance
just canceled my subscription because this is beyond stupid. better off just using the azure api.
What am I paying for if I get shut down after 20 min of use??? I can’t wait for Google’s Gemini Ultra to come out. Very dissapointed in OpenAI!!
it means that we have to wait every 3 hours for 20 minutes use, doesn’t it?
Just got GPT plus today and already hit the cap after 30 minutes.
Major disappointment to say the least, would not have purchased the subscription if I knew this was a thing.
If this is not resolved within the year I will be revoking my subscription and advising friends to avoid the product.
Within 30 mins i hit the cap. message limits for paid version ?! ridiculous. This is not acceptable for paid members
While GPT4 is great (although prompt engineering takes time to master), the usage cap is very annoying. At least if it was transparent I would know when to slow down vs when I can liberally ask GPT for more
