I use the Windows Companion window as a quick-access way to start or continue conversations without interrupting what I’m doing. The workflow works well until I want to expand the current Companion conversation into the full ChatGPT window.
There is already an “Open in main window” button in the Companion UI, but as far as I can tell, that action is not available as a keyboard shortcut.
My current keyboard-only workaround is:
Ctrl+Alt+Space → open Companion
→ have conversation
→ Ctrl+, → force/open the main ChatGPT window through Settings
→ Ctrl+K → search chat history
→ type/select the conversation I was just having
→ Enter
This works, but it is much more cumbersome than the UI action that already exists.
The ideal behavior would be a bindable shortcut for:
Open the current Companion conversation in the main ChatGPT window
For example:
Ctrl+Alt+Enter → current Companion conversation immediately opens/focuses in the main window
I’m not asking for different conversation behavior or a new window mode—just keyboard access to the existing “Open in main window” action.
This would make the Companion window much more useful for keyboard-heavy workflows: start with quick access, then seamlessly promote the conversation to the full interface when it becomes more involved.
