Chat Bar: Temporary Chat - Keyboard Shortcut

It would be great if there was a keyboard shortcut to quickly toggle a chat as a Temporary Chat within the Chat Bar.

Prior Art

In the main ChatGPT App you can use a keyboard shortcut like +Shift+N to quickly open a New Temporary Chat.

Use Case

I’ve found that my most common use-cases for using Temporary Chats is when I want to ask a quick question and I don’t want to have that in my chat history cluttering up results. But most of the time that I want to ask a quick question, I use +Space to open the Chat Bar and start typing my question.

But if I want to ask the question as a Temporary Chat, I have to move my hands off my keyboard to my mouse, just so I can click the Model Switcher and click to toggle the Temporary Chat option.

This switch from keyboard to mouse disrupts the flow. As such, it would improve the experience if either the existing keyboard shortcut from the main app window would work in the Chat Bar or another similar keyboard shortcut was available.

Slash Commands

Similarly, it would be helpful if the / slash commands were exposed in the Chat Bar.

While I don’t personally use these heavily yet, it would improve consistency in being able to access these commands from various places that you would start or continue a chat.

And as an alternative implementation approach, adding the option to switch to a temporary chat from within the slash commands could accomplish the same goal of being able to start a New Temporary Chat (from anywhere in the OS) without having to remove your hands from the keyboard.

Companion Chat

Interestingly, the Companion Chat view on the ChatGPT app on Mac does have access to the slash commands.

So while it may look like it’s just the Chat Bar extended upward to include the chat responses, there’s clearly some difference compared to the raw new Chat Bar.

Quirky Chat Bar + Main App Interaction

As a side-note, there’s currently a quirky interaction that occurs when using the normal New Temporary Chat keyboard shortcut +Shift+N from within the Chat Bar or Companion Chat, the shortcut still takes effect in the Main App.

It would be great if this shortcut worked with whatever context you were actually in: Chat Bar, Companion Chat, Main App.

Much needed.

I’d love to switch between ChatGPT models using ⌘1, ⌘2, ⌘3, for example.

Another thing is enabling dictation and voice mode with keyboard shortcuts.
