Why's GPT 4o insanely limited to free users and even plus users? It literally barely gives you 5 messages in 5-6 hours to the free users

That’s AIPRM causing that issue, have recently uninstalled it as it limits the entire usage of GPT if you aren’t paying for a premium plan through them

lol. If it’s “free” then you are the product.

So there’s actually an exchange. They need our data to improve their models. That’s literally how this stuff works.

So then it’s fair (even for the “free” accounts to complain.

That said even the paid accounts are complaining. In that case it’s data plus dollars and they have even more reason to complain.

There is a big difference here: YouTube generates revenue from either ads or premium subscriptions, but the cost to stream a stored video is not that much; most of the processing cost occurs at upload time, to prepare the content for massive distribution, and that cost is banked against future revenue with more available content.

OTOH there is a very real cost to the computations performed by a generative AI, in terms of power consumption for the utilized GPUs among other factors. On the free tier we’re more or less using the bits of extra capacity within the supporting infrastructure, subsidized by paying subscribers, but when those GPUs are busy generating some silly limerick or helping you up your online dating game with some witty repartee, just keep in mind it is not free to the provider or to the planet.

i have hit my limit a couple times today; it’s absolutely crazy; why isn’t there another tier of paywall. For Christ’s sake, you would make so much money because all of us powerusers are going to pay. i mean i always thought 20 was a little low, untilllllllll i starting hitting limits that are not even documented for paid users… By the way that was pretty crappy when that first happened… but i am over it. just be better OPENAI. Pretend like you live in a capitalist society and create another level to charge; all the pwr usrs will pay.

I don’t know why there is so much criticism. All the rules are discussed, all the limitations mentioned there. And guys, you pay 20 something for an AI that does amazing things in seconds!

One thing I agree, is to make extra plans, like other AIs take 60-80 euros a month + IVA. I’m up to paying more for bigger limits here.

Your message was in May 21, my message is now October 29th, subscription is 28 Euros (including taxes). Access to GPT-4 and especially to ability to attach documents is even more restricted now than a few weeks back. It’s a shame, as openAI seems to be really moving towards a full for-profit organization.

Ever since that $200/month service came out, it seems like they’ve been cutting access for the $20/month tier. There is no way I sent 80 messages this morning, yet I now have to wait 90 minutes to continue the conversation I was in the middle of having about a project I’m working on today.

Is this something to do with the leadership change last year? Are these the things the previous CEO wanted to prevent from happening?

But those rules and limitations are clearly arbitrary given how often they change.
