VERY Low Resolution on the images from ChatGPT & Dalle 4o (June 2024)

I’ve been experiencing the same thing and have tried just about everything. Dall-E has become unusable at this point.

Are the developers aware? I’m not sure how long I can continue paying for a service that is useless.

Just adding my experience. Also noticed the quality is sooooo bad now. Used to consistently generate beautiful pixel-art-aesthetic images, but now its a blurry, janky, mess.

Edit: I also tried Copilot Designer, and it appears to be returning the same poor results now as well.

I love this machine and would rather not add fuel to this thread, even though it is very frustrating. The results I am getting right now are even worse than before. Especially these: lots of light blue shiny spots, very low resolution, and I get even more frequent rule violation warnings, a text as simple as a superheroine with a whip gets a red flag despite the obvious text describing a superheroine with her superweapon: whip. I’m sure this thread is being monitored and the developers are aware of this, but it would be nice to know if it’s being worked on. Well, can’t wait to get on with the work, this machine is incredible when it runs smoothly… :star_struck: Regards

i can definitely confirm above observations. the quality of generated images dropped significantly over the last few weeks. images are blurry, there are a lot of random errors, unfinished parts. i’m very disappointed

Yeah, I hate to pile on. I’m sure the team are working on it, and I absolutely loved what DALL-E was producing just last month or so even. Really amazing truly wonderful stuff! Thanks!

I kinda feel like a just lost my new best friend!

Like @PaulBellow said this amazing tool wasn’t even available a year+ ago really… I now use it most days!

It’d be nice if there was some kind of testing & rollback procedure, rather than going live, and getting stuck with this. It makes it tough to rely on this as a tool. But hopefully this is a one off.

I’d gladly rollback to the old version WHILE the bugs get worked out though.
It’s tough not having access. Some communication would be nice too…

To add into the issues, I also noticed that it’s not just blurriness and poor line art at issue, as mentioned often above.

  • The variety , styles, and details have suffered and seem to be mostly gone as well.
When prompting for a digital painting with lots of detail words And some crossover styling, it pumps out the same sloppy style with little variance, and little adherence to the nuances it used to be SO GOOD at honoring. Now images always seems to be done in the same terrible style.

  • DALL-E 3 + 4o is paying MUCH less attention to the small details given in the prompt description
So that details that used to be represented in old DALL-E images are now just ignored making it much more like Midjourney’s inability to create a closer version of what you describe. The composition has less recognition of the content, layout, positions etc.

I used to get very accurate & detailed images for many of the concepts described deep into my prompts. Very cool, very amazing… But now blase & generic.

Sorry, not a rant! I’ve really been loving ChatGPT & DALL-E3! Such an amazing tool!

I just want to ensure that the team is aware of these issues, as well as the blurriness mentioned so much above.

I hope we don’t get a dumbed down, truncated, version of DALL-E when this is all done.

I’d gladly return to what we had.

Thanks for all the hard work team! You’ve got something really amazing here!!

Is OpenAI even aware of this? When I speak to customer service chat they give me lots of steps that don’t help to fix the issue as if they’re unaware.

Initially (when I started using chatgpt to create images) everything was just perfect: incredibly accurate, beautiful, bright, amazing images, some of which simply took your breath away! Then, about 3-4 months ago, the quality of the images began to change for the worse. The last month (June) the quality has become simply terrifying: blurry and deformed faces, much less detail, poorer colors and lighting. Prompts that gave incredible results 8-4 months ago now produce images that cannot be used! I’m sorry, but I PAY for a subscription. Plus openai does not comment on the situation in any way. If they said that they reserved computer power for training the new version of GPT4 or GPT5, then no problem. But the company doesn’t say anything! This is terrible and I’m disappointed :frowning:

Hi all, well I would love to know what kind of workaround they suggested…… but in the meantime DALL-E gave me the absolute best advice ever:

“I understand the frustration with the quality issues. As an alternative, you might consider reaching out to a professional artist who can provide the detailed, high-quality illustration you’re looking for. If there’s anything else you’d like to try or adjust, I’m here to help!”

I absolutely love this machine & now I just hate it  :scream:

I feel the same… I feel like my designer friend died. It’s so useless now.

Well, I don’t want to offend anyone, not my style really…. but while things grow out of hand behind the curtain we can apparently sit here talking all day long. This thread was created 20 days ago and still no response from OpenAI …… I think it’s very clear that there are issues…… I won’t post any images that I made recently…… they are not for this world to see…… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Honestly, I feel like the more comments and traction we get on this thing the better our chances are of something being done about it. Like previous people have said, we have not heard anything from the developers. So whether they are working on it or even aware is a complete mystery. I feel like everyone here would be ok with just some type of acknowledgment or update saying its being worked on. So the bigger this forum post gets the better in my opinion.

Yeah, it would be nice to see an official response from the company.

Is that what this forum is designed for?
Or are we just talking into a blackhole?

@PaulBellow can you comment? Are you just another user or are you affiliated with OpenAI?

Any info would be appreciated!

I’ve been experiencing exactly the same issue, also finding I generate about 3 image and then told “I’m generating too quickly”

It’s already been 19 days and there’s still no response from the OpenAI team. The images are still very low quality with smudges all over them. I have canceled both my subscriptions and unfortunately have to go back to Midjourney. I liked the vector style of DALL-E better, but it is unusable. I hope they fix this so I can continue using DALL-E 3, If I hear any updates, I’ll make sure to write about them in this thread

Hi all,

I’m considering this as well, but have to admit that DALL E when up running does seem to work a lot better for me.

Just to be ahead of this:

I will post the experience I’m having now, in case the OpenAI team is listening to their own forum and their customers? Wouldn’t it be a thing to expect?

Bottom line, I can’t use it:

  1. Lots of light blue spots covering the image.

  2. Head, hands and to an extent the body looks like it’s been drawn by a child.

  3. Objects are drawn in pieces and not entirely.

  4. I’m constantly getting “violating policy flags” in the most ridiculous ways.

  5. Overall the images are very low resolution and smudgy.

  6. And just to be clear, this goes for all images, not occasionally or once in a while!

All the best///

So frustrating, there is no changes what so ever, and according to the threads here in the community we shall not expect any help. This DALLE E machine has serious problems and as a loyal paying customer I do know when thing has grown out of hands. We are left here in this endless circle of a user driven community with user generated questions and user generated responses. In some cases this ends up at the customer support… with a robot … endless … circle … of …

OpenAi
please push that “brain & high resolution” button again…
And delete the “no brain & low resolution” forever.

All the best

It is terribly sad how neutered DALL-E has become.

My only hope is that these are growing pains, and a new and better version is being worked on.

It is troubling that there is no response, at all here from company related accounts. I’m not trying to come off as angry, more concerned & distressed, as a user it’s tough to rely on a tool that gets gutted & becomes unreliable.

My fear is that this is some “cost cutting” measure that will permanently destroy the amazing tool that DALL-E3 was.

Please don’t destroy the old DALL-E 3 OpenAI!
I’d gladly pay a separate subscription to support it’s ongoing development.

Currently though, I’ve generated 25 images, then was told I was generating too quickly.

The images, formerly AMAZING… Now, with the exact same prompts, and referencing GEN ID’s of those former images… ignores all styling and pumps out a generic image worse than Stable Diffusion.

  • Little to no ability to read the fine details in the prompt as before,
  • Virtually no style variation. - Same generic style even with detailed prompt.
  • Blurry artifacts.

I’m sure everyone who has taken the time to respond here is hoping you have plans to take this to new heights, rather than leave this as is. We understand you need to make money, as paying customers we are trying to do our part.

We know OpenAI is growing exponentially, but the first sign of a good company how it respects and supports its customers.

It doesn’t take much to communicate. Please do.

Respectfully! An avid customer, user & fan of DALL-E3

Absolutely agree! I open chatgpt every day in hopes of trying to create something as amazing as before (using the same prompts), but the images still come out blurry, flat, boring, distorted. Eyes and faces are distorted. Styles specified in the prompt are not applied normally. Small/medium details are reminiscent of “dusty” CG from old games. Surprisingly, there is still no response from the company. Terrible.
