Using Custom GPT's within projects

I’d like to request a much-needed feature for improving workflow management in ChatGPT: the ability to use Custom GPTs within Projects.

Currently, Projects offer a great way to organize chats and files, but they only support the default models (GPT-4o, GPT-4, GPT-3.5). As someone who relies heavily on Custom GPTs tailored to specific roles — such as content creation, strategy, client-specific assistants, and technical support — this limitation significantly impacts usability.

Here’s why this feature is important:

  • Contextual consistency: I want my Custom GPTs to handle entire workflows, and Projects are the perfect container for that — but not being able to use them together breaks continuity.
  • Organized memory management: Without Projects, Custom GPTs create a cluttered chat interface and are harder to navigate or revisit.
  • UX and productivity: It’s currently impossible to keep Custom GPT chats grouped with relevant files and discussions, which undermines the goal of focused, project-based workspaces.

Ideal solution:

  • Let users start a chat with a Custom GPT inside a Project
  • Or allow existing Custom GPT chats to be moved or assigned to a Project
  • Bonus: enable Projects to have a default assigned GPT for consistency across that workspace

This feature would greatly improve usability for power users, consultants, educators, and anyone managing multiple domains of work inside ChatGPT.
